    The Internal Temporary Traveler Surgical Technologist Staffing Program participant follows program guidelines with a 90-day assignment consisting of 36 hours per week, including night and weekend shifts. Reporting to the Nurse Manager/Assistant Nurse Manager/Tertiary Team Leader, the Staff Registered Nurse: Tertiary Care adheres to professional standards and demonstrates core values in patient care.

    Job Description:

    The Surgical Technologist (ST) plays a key role in providing intra-operative care to surgical patients. Working in a dynamic environment, the focus is on patient progress, quality initiatives, and ensuring a high level of patient satisfaction. Responsibilities include precepting other staff and students under the supervision of a Registered Nurse/Circulating Nurse.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Collaborate with the Circulating nurse to prepare for surgical procedures with proper instrumentation, equipment, and supplies.
    • Pass instruments and supplies to the surgeon at the sterile field.
    • Anticipate and provide the surgical team with necessary instruments, equipment, and supplies.
    • Participate in instrument care, cleaning, and maintenance.
    • Ensure accuracy of sponge, sharps, and instrument counts.
    • Maintain integrity of the sterile field.
    • Engage in quality improvement/quality assurance process.
    • Communicate effectively and collaborate for efficient turnover goals.
    • Follow safety protocols and department initiatives.
    • Handle specimens, incorporate organizational guiding principles, and comply with policies.
    • Exhibit professional behavior, customer service, and commitment to quality.
    • Participate in quality improvement activities and mandatory education.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Education: Completion of a surgical technologist program or training.

    Licensure, Certification, Registration: Certified Surgical Technologist credential required.

    Skills, Knowledge & Abilities: Trained to meet organizational standards.
