    Description
    POSITION PURPOSE

    Reporting to the Senior Geologist, the Geology Technician shall work with other Geology Technicians, drillers, geologists at mine site to obtain and deliver consistent and accurate samples to the assay laboratory in a timely manner at Pinto Valley mine. They will also be given other support tasks for the technical services department.

    POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Demonstrate safety leadership and safety consciousness
    • Technical and accurate sampling of blast holes using the most up to date procedures
    • Basic survey abilities for picking up and laying out blast holes
    • Geotechnical prism layout as directed by geotechnical engineer
    • Operation and task training other technicians in the safe and efficient use of equipment and other tools
    • Manage sample inventory and related warehouse material safely and without damage to property and/or process
    • Enter basic information into computer geological database
    • Gather data and readings from geotechnical instruments
    • Geotechnical instrumentation PMs as directed by Geotechnical Engineer
    • Completes periodic daily workplace inspections and corrects deficiencies in a timely manner
    • Accurately photographs drill core ensuring natural colors and minimal distortion
    • Responsible for sawing core samples to ensure core is sawed into two (2) equal halves
    • Ensures chip samples are obtained from equally spaced locations within the drill hole, the minimum sample weight is obtained, samples are correctly labeled, and the correct paperwork and computer work have been completed
    • Ensures duplicate samples are correctly labeled and that both the original and the duplicate are identified accordingly for laboratory staff
    • Ensures timely shipments to laboratories and accurately completes required forms
    • Ore control shape generation as needed
    • Drone flights for blasts and survey
    • Ability to identify naming and numbering errors in sample handling procedures
    • Performs other duties as required

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS
    • High School diploma or GED
    • Soil or rock sampling experience
    • Experience operating mobile equipment i.e., forklift
    • Ability to lift/handle/load/stack up to fifty (50) pound sample bags and core boxes
    • Experience performing equipment and work place safety inspections
    • Ability to work outdoors and in ambient weather conditions
    • Able to use a variety of computer software applications, especially Microsoft Office and acQuire
    • Well organized and self-motivated
    • Valid State Driver's License
    • Able to speak, comprehend, read, and write English


    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    80% of the Geology Technician II's time will be spent in the field while the remaining 20% will be spent in an office environment.
