    DESCRIPTION

    The Construction Inspector will be responsible for monitoring the work of contractors to ensure quality control and contract compliance. This position involves inspecting facility, building, roadway, structure, and transportation construction/renovation projects of moderate to considerable complexity. The inspector will independently coordinate all phases of construction inspection, including traffic control, environmental concerns, and project coordination with property owners, utility companies, and local and federal government representatives.

    This role requires frequent contact with project engineers and field personnel to discuss and resolve field construction issues and to obtain technical guidance in specialty areas of engineering and inspections. The successful candidate will also have frequent external contact with contractor personnel, local government, law enforcement agencies, suppliers, utility companies, and the public to schedule and coordinate project inspection, resolve problems, provide information, and answer questions.

    The key responsibilities of this position include:

    • Reviewing plans and specifications associated with assigned work on active construction contracts.
    • Overseeing daily operations of contractor or subcontractor personnel to ensure that work is being performed in accordance with plans and specifications.
    • Answering basic contractor questions about plan and specification requirements.
    • Identifying contractor means and methods that are inconsistent with plans and specifications, and discussing needed changes with the contractor as well as the project engineer or project supervisor.
    • Making measurements and observations of work being performed to ensure accurate quantities are tracked for completed work.
    • Preparing detailed field drawings or electronic templates to support the calculations being used to justify the pay quantities.
    • Monitoring material testing needs, and/or taking material tests associated with work being performed.
    • Understanding and applying testing frequencies for various materials used.
    • Completing Inspector Daily Reports (IDRs) to document pay quantities, material requirements, and contractor staff.
    • Photographing all project activities.
    • Assisting with the preparation of quantities and construction cost estimates.
    • Participating with the project team in meetings with clients regarding project issues.
    • Participating in a safety culture in a construction setting.
    • Willingness to work as needed to satisfy project requirements.

    PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

    • High School Diploma or GED, Associate's Degree in Construction Technology.
    • 0-7 years of related experience.
    • Experience and certified in construction materials testing.
    • Construction related certifications or the ability to obtain.
    • Ability to pass a background check along with valid state driver's license.
    • Good interpersonal, communication, and conceptual thinking skills.
    • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
    • Ability to work independently for periods of time.
    • Attention to detail and effective decision making and organizational skills.
    • Experience in Microsoft Office.
    • Ability to prepare and maintain records, prepare reports, documents and correspondence related to the work.

    Candidates should possess strong communication and organizational skills.
