    Description


    The Instrument Engineer I is responsible for engineering, designing, planning, implementing, and coordinating instrumentation work in the maintenance and operations departments of the Power Plants.

    This position requires knowledge and training in the installation, inspection, operation, repair, upgrade and calibration of instrument & controls equipment.


    Because the Authority has a responsibility to serve the public 24 hours per day, an employee in this class is expected to work overtime as conditions demand, and may be called in on short notice during power outages and other emergencies.

    Gathers and correlates basic engineering data.
    Performs detailed or routine engineering research and development assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests.
    Works on less complicated design of specific components and equipment.
    Participatesin the evaluation of existing systems and recommends efficiency changes and plant improvement projects.
    Prepares engineering specifications for calibration and testing of all instrumentation equipment.
    Prepares estimates, plans and specifications for minor plant additions and modifications
    Analyzes, troubleshoots and diagnoses faults in operation of instrument and controls equipment necessary for safe and efficient operation of the power plant

    Devises, sets up, and operates electronic instrumentation and related electromechanical or electrohydraulic apparatus involved in operational control and environmental testing of mechanical, structural or electrical equipment.

    Uses computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents.

    Writes specifications and prepares RFPs, IFBs & RFQs for selection of stock or special electrical & instrument equipment from vendors and/or suppliers.

    Provides technical and engineering support to the preventative maintenance program in planning and directing the necessary application(s, and inspecting and maintaining electrical and instruments in plant operations.
    Must be able to work overtime, weekends and holidays as needed.
    Performs other related work as required.

    Knowledge of industry safety regulations applicable codes and standards including but not limited to IEEE, NEC, ASME, OSHA, ISA, EPA, etc.

    Knowledge and ability in reading, drawing and interpretation of one line diagrams, PID(s), loop & logic drawings, schematics related to the, construction, functions and design in operations of power plant and unit controls, excitation controls, electrical, instrumentation, pneumatic control devices.

    Ability to maintain technical and administrative records
    Ability to prepare drawings and sketches of generating plants and distribution lines

    Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with contractors, co-workers and all others contacted during the course of work.

    Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.
