    Description

    The Electrician II is a journey level position in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures.

    Installs, maintains, alters, and repairs wiring, electrical devices, machinery, and equipment.

    Work assignments are received from a foreman or other supervisor and are performed independently and in accordance with accepted trade practices.

    Work is reviewed through inspection of completed work for quality and compliance with work orders and is further evaluated based on the continued workability of equipment, systems, and fixtures repaired or installed.


    Job responsibilities include the following:

    • Measures, cuts, threads, bends, assembles, and installs conduit;
    • Be able to read blueprints.
    • Draws wire through conduit, does necessary splicing, and soldering
    • Installs and connects equipment to wiring systems
    • Installs transformers, building of primary and secondary busways, and installation of switchgear, panels, and disconnects
    • Troubleshoots, locating and repairing electric motors, controls systems, building wiring, and shop equipment
    • Reading and interpreting technical drawings and trade codes

    Qualified candidates must document on the application that they clearly possess all of the following:


    • Considerable knowledge of the standard practices and methods of the electrical trade.
    • Skill in the use and care of tools of the trade
    • Ability to locate and correct defects in electrical systems and equipment
    • Ability to read and work from technical drawings
    • Ability to train others in the electrical trade
    • Ability to follow oral and written instructions

    Management Preferences:

    • Current Electrical License
    • Minimum three (3) years experience in the following: Commercial/Industrial electrical installation and repairs; Interpretation and understanding of NC Electrical Codes, NFPA 70; Interpretation and understanding of blue prints and technical drawings.
    • Minimum two (2) years experience in the following: Operation of related equipment (backhoe, skid steer, trencher, forklift, wire pullers, conduit benders, etc.); Properuse and care of related trade tools; Drawing diagrams.
    • Minimum one (1) year of experience in use of computers for research, email, and records.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to lift 90lbs safely
    • Ability to work on a ladder and pass the required physical to wear a negative pressure respirator
    • Physically able to work in hot and cold environments and confined spaces
    • A valid NC Drivers license is required to fully perform the duties of this position.

    High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience in the construction or repair of secondary electrical systems;

    or

    an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Based on the nature of work performed, may require appropriate licensure by the governing board or commission.

    Degrees must be from an appropriately accredited college or university.
