    Quality ManagerDepartment:

    Quality AssuranceReports to: Ames ARP Plant ManagerBasic FunctionDirect the quality assurance program for blow/injection molding operations at the Ames ARP location.

    Supervise the quality control technicians and blow/injection molding operators in performance of duties relating to inspection, laboratory testing, statistical process control, and salvage operations.

    Implement/maintain and modify as appropriate the plant's quality management system to improve business operating systems and meet the requirements of ISO/QS 9001.

    Lead/assist with the resolution of quality related problems at the plant and/or customer location and start-up of new products/processes. Assist in troubleshooting of technical problems. Maintain high standard of GMP & AIB compliance.
    Specific Duties 1. Design, implement and direct the quality assurance program for the Ames location.a.

    Establish/maintain quality program designed to the requirements for ISO 9001, including (but not limited to): Plant management responsibility; document and data control; control of customer supplied materials and nonconforming product/material; product identification and traceability; inspecting/testing procedures and control of related equipment; corrective and prevention actions; and internal quality audits.b.

    Establish/monitor/maintain statistical process control (SPC) programs.c. Advise and instruct local managers in the utilization of SPC data.d. Provide consistent ongoing analysis of process capability (CPK) statistics.

    Determine/recommend/assist in continuous improvement programs to meet specific location's/division's quality objective and advise the plant manager of appropriate action plans.

    Suggest improvements in procedures and techniques to improve product/customer acceptance.e.

    Establish/monitor and control hold for inspection (HFI) procedures to ensure nonconforming materials do not enter the production process and are properly identified and segregated.f.

    Coordinate quality activities with other division/plant personnel seeking mutual agreement on problems involving coordination.2. Supervise salaried/hourly personnel at the assigned location(s) responsible for the coordination and performance of the plant's overall quality.a. Inspection of incoming purchased materials, work-in-process materials, rework materials and finished goods. Assure the required level of quality through visual inspection, statistical sampling, and laboratory testing of materials. Ascertain the reasons for nonconforming materials.b.

    Performance of operator/technician's tests - section weights, wall thickness, dimensional characteristics, glue usage and patterns, banding tension, stretch wrap usage and load to force, etc.c.

    Processing of all scrap materials including (but not limited to) bottle/preform salvage and regrind, corrugated salvage and other materials.d. Design and implement accurate reporting and recording of scrap, reprocessed materials. Control the movement of these materials.e. Ascertain the disposition of materials placed on hold for inspection (HFI).f. Conduct quality inspections across the facility and quality systems.3. Develop and implement continuous improvement plans for defect prevention programs by determining the cause of chronic defects.

    Recommend and stimulate corrective action with plant personnel/staff managers by encouraging an atmosphere of continuous improvement and employee involvement programs.

    Provide leadership guidance in campaigning for quality improvements.4. Provide consistent ongoing analysis of defect costs/customer complaints to provide plant manager and division quality manager with appropriate actions.5. Serve as the representative of Ames ARP in dealing with customer complaints, plant partnership meetings, quality problems and/or programs. Travel as required to customer locations (approximately one per week) to ascertain the nature of problems and their impacts. Appraise and coordinate the appropriate manufacturing/quality/technical support personnel of findings and recommended corrective action plans. Follow-up to conclusion.6.

    Design / implement / coordinate training programs for managers / supervisors/ employees of Ames ARP to assure defined uniform quality standards and communicated expectations.7.

    Set an example to all employees regarding attendance, conduct and concern for company goals.8. Perform other duties as directed.


    Education Required:
    Bachelor's degree in Technical Discipline Strongly Preferred

    Experience Required:
    Five to seven years related experience in quality assurance/management in a manufacturing organization. ASQ Certification
    • CQA, CQM or CQE.
    Proficiency in personnel computer skills (spreadsheet and word processing software). Multi-cavity/blow molding and injection experience a plus.
