    Duties and Responsibilities
    Loyola University Chicago Advancement Operations seeks a Data Engineer to serve as a key member of Information Services and Reporting (ISR) team to support key fundraising activities. The Data Engineer reports to the Director of Information Services and Reporting and serves as the technical translator between end users of Advancement technology and data and the internal / external resources for these services.

    Data Warehousing / ETL Support (50%)
    • Analyze complex sets of data for the purpose of extracting and purposefully using applicable information to inform business decisions and processes.
    • Designs, develops, documents, and implements data solutions (ETL pipelines, tools, datasets, etc.).
    • Mentor analysts and run internal workshops on best practices, serving as a resident expert in data models and statistical analysis within the Advancement office.
    • Monitors and troubleshoots solutions - correcting failures, security, and performance issues in a timely manner.
    • Perform data manipulation, statistical applications, programming, analysis and modeling in order to implement projects related to Advancement's internal data systems (Ellucian Advance AWA) and external sources.
    • Perform data/technology discovery from new sources and third-party applications for data ingestion.
    • Performs data profiling and analysis, data cleansing and validation in support of data solutions.
    • Provides advanced technical support for production applications and dataflows.
    • Tests and promotes work packages between non-production and production environments both independently, and with team members.
    • Within ETL and data warehouse work, familiarity with expansion of snapshot tables and/or implementation of slowly changing dimension (SCD) type 2 methodology.
    Database Optimization (30%)
    • Acts as the technical lead on critical CRM workstreams including, but not limited to Information Delivery and Integrations.
    • Addresses TR1 and TR2 data migration exceptions.
    • Assist in post-launch stabilization of Salesforce Ascend, Constituent Portal, etc.
    • Participates in guided and independent testing sessions as deemed necessary.
    • Partners with Information Technology Services (ITS) on the development and evolution of an Advancement Salesforce Data Warehouse (SFDW).
    • Serve as a key member of Advancement Operations by providing technical knowledge and support of existing database practices, process flows, and reporting.
    Business Support (15%)
    • Assist with creating complex reports and dashboards using Power BI, Tableau and/or SSRS to internal users and teams.
    • Collaborates with stakeholders (internal technical and business teams) to understand processes and data requirements, updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as needed.
    • Execute processes to run and evaluate the Information Services and Reporting (ISR) team's suite of data audit reports, correcting data errors programmatically when possible (i.e., when a manual review is not needed).
    • Projections/forecasting for Fundraising Progress (FRP) and Campaign Progress.
    • Serves as a key contributor of the Advancement Operations Data Quality Task Force (DQTF).

    • Performs other related duties as assigned.
    This position is based in our Chicago (Lewis Towers) office, with the opportunity to work from home in the greater Chicago area. On occasion, an in-office presence in the Lewis Towers office may be required.

    Minimum Education and/or Work Experience
    Bachelor's degree in Business, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of experience and training. Three or more years of experience in Data Integration, Big Data, or Business Intelligence required.

    • Experience must include: the development and maintenance of infrastructure that connects data sets; data manipulation, statistical applications, programming, analysis, and modeling.

    • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

    • Accuracy and attention to detail in a deadline-driven environment are essential.
    • Advocacy/Lobbying for needed access, permissions, and documentation from central IT.
    • Eliciting and documenting requirements from stakeholders.
    • Engaging in the Advancement Services and fundraising community (Involvement in AASP, APRA, CASE).
    • Experience participating in a team-driven, deadline-oriented environment using project management tools and agile methodologies.
    • Knowledge of the CASE Global Reporting Standards.
    • Willingness and aptitude to work with ambiguity.
