    Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Nursing

    Job Responsibilities

    The School of Business and Professional Studies invites applications for a full-time, 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Nursing to start January or August 2024.

    Responsibilities: Teaching will be in the traditional BSN program and/or the accelerated BSN program as needed. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate courses in nursing and related topics, content and clinical areas, such as adult health medical/surgical, community/public health, critical care, and/or other areas as needed. A full-time position includes instruction in both classroom and clinical areas. Scholarly activity and output appropriate to the rank is expected consistent with the teacher-scholar model. Additional duties include recruitment and retention of students, student advising, mentoring students in research or other experiences, and service to the department, university, and community.

    The Community: Located in northeast Missouri, Kirksville is a cultural and economic hub in the region. In addition to being the home of Truman, Kirksville is the birthplace of osteopathic medicine and features a medical school, dental school and community college, and the Kirksville School District is consistently recognized for academic excellence.     Required Qualifications
    • Master's degree in nursing, and two or more years of recent experience as a registered nurse;
    • Currently licensed in the U.S. as a registered nurse after passing NCLEX-RNâ;
    • Currently holds or eligible for an unrestricted Missouri registered nurse license;
    • Evidence of and/or demonstrated potential for teaching effectiveness in nursing;
    • Strong oral and written communication, and interpersonal skills;
    • Commitment to collegiality within the learning community; and
    • Commitment to the liberal arts and sciences as a teacher-scholar, with undergraduate student development and accomplishment as the highest priority.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • A completed terminal degree in nursing or closely related area;
    • Nursing specialization in adult health medical/surgical, community/public health, or critical care nursing;
    • In the absence of specialization in adult health medical/surgical, community/public health, or critical care, other specialties will be considered depending upon the needs within the department;
    • Ability to teach other related courses within the department;
    • Additional relevant experiences and preparation, including education, consulting, or practice;
    • Evidence of and/or demonstrated potential for developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills in undergraduates;
    • Evidence of and/or demonstrated potential for encouraging and mentoring students in transformative learning experiences, such as undergraduate research, service-learning practice, and internships; and
    • Interest and background in interdisciplinary and/or cross-disciplinary teaching, scholarship, and service.
