    WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY
    The

    Plant Accounting Manager

    manages and directs the day-to-day plant accounting and preparation of plant cost information.

    WHAT WILL YOU DO?

    Manages the month end close process for the plant, working in cooperation with the head corporate finance staff.


    Performs monthly variance and trend analysis, reports on actual versus budget variances and works with the Plant management team to identify and implement opportunities for cost savings, operating efficiencies, and best practices.

    Prepare various financial statements and reports, on a monthly basis as well as for ad hoc requests.


    Manage and prepare monthly analysis for all plant General Ledger accounts, ensuring timely follow up on any unusual or unexpected variances.


    Manages monthly forecasts, annual budget and annual 5 years strategic plans, leads the plant management group with budget preparation and on-going budget adjustments throughout the year.


    Manages the CAPEX process at the plant level, including assisting with the preparation of capital authorization requests, forecasting CAPEX spending, monitoring project spending, and ensuring timely capitalization of capital projects; update Fixed Asset Ledgers as required.


    Serves as a role model in the areas of leadership, teamwork, customer focus, continuous improvement, safety, and environmental stewardship to ensure alignment with the company's vision and critical success factors.


    Work with the head office corporate finance staff and local plant management to: (a) establish and monitor system controls, (b) develop procedures to improve existing systems and (c) ensure that Corporate policies and procedures are being adhered to.

    Coordinates the preparation of external and internal audit materials.

    Attend daily operations meeting for full management support. May provide month-end and related accounting support for small Terminal like location as required.

    WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?

    Minimum four-year business diploma from University or College with minimum five years progressively responsible finance/ accounting experience.

    Desired candidates that have successfully completed or participating in a recognized professional accounting program; CPA or like curriculum preferred.

    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports, memo and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization, strong interpersonal skills, good communicator.


    Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations; have the ability to control accounting administration through practical mathematical accounting principles.


    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

    Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to take financial data and controlling data and apply it to practical situations.


    To perform this job successfully, an individual must have intermediate to advanced skills with MS Office Word, and Power-Point; advanced skills in Excel applications.

    Experience with SAP R/3 or an Enterprise Resource Software would be a strong plus.

    Proven management and leadership skills.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk and hear.

    The employee is occasionally required to stoop, crouch and/or kneel and climb with some height's exposure of a moderate level.

    The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

    Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

    While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to inclement weather conditions.

    The noise level in the office work environment is low with occasional higher levels in non-office areas including need for personal protective equipment as required.

    Periodic travel required including ability to obtain passport for periodic corporate Toronto office visits as necessary.
