Project Overview:
Thacker Pass is the largest known lithium resource in the United States. Once complete, the mine and processing facilities will produce more lithium carbonate than any other facility in the United States by far – enough to power 1 million electric vehicles per year.
As the EPCM contractor for Lithium Americas, Bechtel is responsible for managing and integrating the efforts of a team contractors engineering and building the facility. We are also managing procurement of about $1 Billion in goods and services. Earth work began in 2023 and design and procurement of long-lead equipment is underway.
The project is located in the high desert and wide-open spaces of north-central Nevada about 25 miles from the Oregon border, 1 hour northwest of Winnemucca, Nevada and 3 hours northeast of Reno.
Planned with sustainability and the environment in mind, the facility will use its excess process heat to generate electricity and will recycle process water up to seven times. Once the second phase of the project is complete, Thacker Pass will produce more than 16 times the current U.S. output of lithium.

Job Summary:
In this role, you will perform hydraulic calculations to support the design of pumping systems. You will collaborate and support other engineering disciplines by providing calculation results. Your professional work knowledge and abilities through the application of hydraulic pumping system techniques and criteria will enable you to make impactful contributions to the team. #LI-NP1

Major Responsibilities:

• Produce hydraulic calculation reports;
• Produce pump datasheets;
• Evaluates, selects, and applies standard mechanical engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria, using independent judgment in making adaptations and modifications​
• Participates in the design, development, modification and evaluation of hydraulic systems components and processes used utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs)​
• Collaborates with other engineering disciplines​;
• Provides technical support in addressing issues as they arise during engineering design.

Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and relevant experience performing hydraulic pump calculations.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Experience performing hydraulic calculations for the purpose of creating and selecting pumps;
• Experience with process fluids and water network system hydraulic calculations;
• Preferred if there is experience in slurry hydraulic systems, particularly non-settling slurries;
• Preference with Bechtel processes and systems;
• Preference for Fluid Flow 3 software operation experience;
• Ability to interact with other engineering disciplines to obtain and provide information;
• 5+ years of experience of design engineering experience.
