    Overview:

    Assists in managing the day to day operations of the department utilizing quality, cost effective patient care principles. Supervises, supports and develops department staff. Consistently utilizes a Family Centered holistic approach (considering physical, psych/social, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in the assigned service area). Successful performance contributes to a holistic approach to the delivery of services, quality patient/family care, and a high level of satisfaction from patients and families. Blank Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) provides care for children from birth through 17 years of age. A Family-Centered Care approach is implemented in the delivery of patient care. PICU is a newly constructed department with the state of the art equipment. PICU is a 12 bed unit.

    Responsibilities:
    • Manages daily operations of patient care. Contributes to the maintenance of high quality, cost effective services consistent with the needs of the users and the hospitals budgetary guidelines.
    • Assists Kronos timekeepers when needed and approves time cards.
    • Reviews HPPD information in OneStaff.
    • Reviews RL solutions and follows-up.
    • Monitors sick calls and tardiness
    • Assists with patient placement for all clinical departments at Blank Children's and Womens
    • Services.
    • Assists with daily staffing and Internal Resource Team.
    • Assists Kronos timekeepers when needed.
    • Collects and analyzes HPPD sheets.
    • Collect occurrence reports and follows-up.
    • Provides clinical leadership by directing, coordinating and delegating patient care in an
    • organized manner, allowing for flexibility.
    • Acts as an interdepartmental liaison promoting effective multidisciplinary teamwork.
    • Collaborates with physicians and other health care team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
    • Participates in patient care pertinent to each clinical specialty.
    • Responsible to maintain current professional expertise. Promotes personal and professional
    • growth among co-workers.
    • Exhibits discretion and sound judgment in all aspects of the job.
    • Maintains awareness of applicable laws and/or regulations affecting patient care. Remains current on law/regulation changes, recognizes implications to the organization and recommends courses of action to ensure compliance.
    • Assists in the development of policy/procedure and guidelines for safe, efficient operation of the department.
    • Assists in developing annual budget, authorizes expenditures according to the signature authorization policy and monitors performance; takes corrective action when appropriate to maintain control of financial resources.
    • Researches and recommends short and long term strategies to meet the patient care needs. Assists with the achievement of objectives and necessary modifications for attainment of goals. (F)
    • Interviews, coordinates orientation, schedules, and evaluates new employees. Disciplines, and terminates staff with appropriate input. Demonstrates the ability to fairly and consistently interpret, apply and follow personnel policies/procedures.
    • Represents Blank Children's and Womens Services in a professional manner. Promotes positive interpersonal relations and serves as a role model within the department and with hospital personnel.
    • Creates an environment that promotes staff empowerment.
    • Displays creativity and innovation when making recommendations for improvement in the delivery of services to the hospital.
    • Is able to instruct and lead the staff so that a high level of productivity is maintained, intervening when necessary, to problem solve.
    • Demonstrates the ability to be fair and impartial while maintaining a professional relationship.
    • Consistently utilizes a Family Centered holistic approach (considering physical, psych/social, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in the assigned service area).
    Qualifications:

    Minimum Requirements

    Identify items that are minimally required to perform the essential functions of this position.

    Not required to perform the essential functions of the position.

    Education:

    Graduate of accredited nursing program.

    BSN degree.

    Experience:

    Two years of experience as a registered.

    Experience in specialty area.

    Previous management experience.

    License(s)/Certification(s):

    Current Iowa license as a registered nurse.

    Current BCLS.

    Successfully complete department PALS certification within one year of hire date.

    Valid drivers license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

    Must be able to communicate effectively with people of diverse professional educational and lifestyle backgrounds.

    Knowledge of basic computer skills.

    Other:

    Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
