    UIHS is hiring a Pharmacy Technician for our clinic's in-house pharmacy. We offer very good pay and a much better work-life balance than most retail pharmacy jobs:

    SUMMARY:

    Work under the supervision of the Pharmacy Director, Staff Pharmacists, and/or Relief Pharmacists to provide pharmacy services to UIHS clients.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

    Pharmacy Technician I:

    Typing Tasks

    • Enter or retrieve prescription information from the pharmacy software, taking care to be thorough, accurate and to follow established UIHS protocols.
    • Check client eligibility for insurance coverage and various UIHS services.
    • If client has no insurance or prescription is not covered by client's insurance, then determine the most cost-effective option for the client.

    Robot/Pulling Tasks

    • Pull medication from shelves or the robot and assemble/set up prescriptions for filling and dispensing.
    • Maintain ScriptPro robot, including refilling medications, adding vials, fixing jams, and changing labels as needed.
    • Process scheduled prescriptions from the pharmacy software & refill requests from the IVR system.

    Filling Tasks

    • Fill prescriptions and attach the relevant labels on the vials/packages.
    • Double-check for correct medication, quantity, form, sig, price, insurance processing and delivery method.

    Cashier/Clerk Tasks

    • Greet clients and process their requests.
    • Perform cash register transactions accurately in our POS system and balance the register drawer daily.
    • Assist with processing of mail and delivery prescriptions by scanning bar codes into the POS system.
    • Process Return to Shelf (RTS) meds 14 days after filling date.

    General Responsibilities of all Technicians

    • Must be willing to learn more about the American Indian culture and attend at least one Cultural Presentation/Training per year.
    • Provide excellent customer service to our clients.
    • Share duties to answer the phones and solve the caller's requests or questions.
    • Assist other team members with tasks as needed to keep the workflow proceeding smoothly.
    • Perform daily maintenance chores, and alert pharmacist of any potential problems or shortages.
    • Follow the directions of the Pharmacist in Charge and follow organizational and regulatory policies, guidelines, and safety standards.
    • Must be competent with knowledge and training regarding Fraud, Waste, and Abuse Compliance.
    • Attends department meetings and other assigned meetings.
    • Adheres to accreditation and compliance standards/guidelines.
    • Maintains a professional, organized, and clean working environment by following organizational policies, guidelines, and safety standards.
    • Assists in the development of departmental policy, procedures, and quality improvement activities within the clinic as directed.
    • Performs all duties in accordance with the UIHS Mission, Vision and Guiding Principles.

    Level II – In addition to the above-mentioned duties:

    Order Tasks

    • Place orders using the pharmacy software's automatic order process or the supplier's manual order process.
    • Input manual orders into pharmacy software to properly adjust inventory levels.

    Mail and Delivery Tasks

    • Sort prescriptions for mail or delivery and pack, while paying careful attention to special conditions such as cold items that require ice packs, or controlled substances that have specific mail/delivery restrictions.
    • Create postage for mailers using online postage system.
    • Enter each mail and delivery item into the relevant logs for future tracking and verification.

    Automatic-Refill Tasks

    • Run a daily report in pharmacy software to determine which clients are due for automatic refills. If no refills remain on any prescriptions, then send requests to the relevant providers.
    • Verify that automatic-refill clients have completed the required annual enrollment form for each prescription.

    Bubble/Blister Pack Tasks

    • Work closely with the bubble-pack pharmacist to process prescriptions that are due to be packed.
    • Arrange medications in the bubble pack sheets in preparation for the pharmacist's final verification.

    Returns Tasks

    • Process medication returns as directed by pharmacist for the wholesaler or the pharmaceutical reverse distributor.

    Clinic Med-Room Order Tasks (Stock-Meds)

    • Receive stock-med orders from each clinic. Order and dispense after pharmacist's final check.

    Level III – In addition to the above-mentioned duties:

    Prior Authorizations & PA Appeals

    • Initiate and complete prior authorizations using the CoverMyMeds portal.
    • If PA is rejected, work with pharmacist, provider, health plan, PBM, etc. to gather all required information and file a successful appeal.

    340b Compliance Tasks

    • Review prescriptions from 340b contract pharmacies to verify they comply with 340b regulations.
    • Perform Code 20 Audit for Medi-Cal Rx clients and correct as needed to prevent double discounts.
    • Acquire chart notes from outside providers to document client's eligibility for 340b pricing.

    Contract Pharmacy Audit Tasks (for non-340b contract pharmacies)

    • Review invoices from contract pharmacies to ensure all charges comply with our contract terms.
    • If discrepancies are found, contact the pharmacy to correct the errors.

    Inventory Tasks

    • Perform monthly inventory count of high-cost items and report any discrepancies to the Director.

    Insurance Audit Tasks

    • Assist the Director with providing requested documentation for any 3rd party insurance audits.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Pharmacy Technician I – No supervisory responsibilities

    Pharmacy Technician II – No supervisory responsibilities

    Pharmacy Technician III – Assists in the supervision and training of non-pharmacist staff at the discretion of the Pharmacy Director.

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Educational degrees must be from accredited schools

    Level I:

    • Must have High School Diploma or GED
    • Must have current California Pharmacy Technician license.
    • Prefer one (1) year of technician experience and some experience with pharmacy software, EHR, ScriptPro robot, POS system, and IVR software.

    Level II:

    • Same as above plus two (2) years of demonstratable experience performing the Level I & II tasks listed above.
    • Demonstratable advanced experience with pharmacy software, EHR and drug purchasing systems.

    Level III:

    • Same as above plus minimum one (1) year of demonstratable experience successfully processing complex PA appeals for private insurance claims.
    • Prefer experience with 340b compliance tasks and MS Excel experience.

    COMPUTER OPERATIONS

    • Basic personal computer skills including electronic mail, word processing, spreadsheet, etc.
    • Ability to use more advanced computer systems such as pharmacy software, EHR, ScriptPro robot, POS system and IVR software.
