    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Residence Life and Housing Coordinator is a live-in professional position responsible for the overall administration of all residence halls at the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) California campus. The Coordinator promotes an environment which contributes to a student's academic growth and personal and social development as well as manages operational functions of each residence hall.

    ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee the comprehensive operation of three (3) residence halls and CIA contracted housing for approximately 200 students. Promoting an environment which encourages productive community living, personal development opportunities for residents, and an atmosphere conducive to physical well-being and academic achievement.
  • Manage student housing assignments and billing using Residence Life system-StarRez. Provide housing forecasts.
  • Oversee CIA-contracted housing as needed to meet demand of the college.
  • Advise students who have personal or housing problems with emphasis on providing exceptional service. Serve as mediator/facilitator when necessary to provide resolutions for interpersonal conflicts between students and make referrals to on campus Counselors, as necessary.
  • Create and implement protocols and procedures for residence halls including lock outs, kitchen use, Resident Advisor (RA) duty coverage, equipment check-out, etc.
  • Adjudicate student disciplinary meetings. This includes the enforcement of the Student Code of Conduct and the implementation of disciplinary action for violations of the Student Code of Conduct and residence hall rules and regulations. Empowered to assign sanctions, such as demerits, fines and community service using Maxient Conduct Manager.
  • Act as primary liaison with Facilities to address any building facilities issues. This includes inventory of furniture, plumbing issues, scheduling room cleaning at breaks, and all other facility issues.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise Resident Assistants. Develop and implement staff training and development programs.
  • Work with the Campus Security department on all matters pertaining to student safety and security in the residence halls.
  • Oversee a holistic programming model for the residence halls with an emphasis on community building.
  • Monitor expenditures of the Residence Life programming budget.
  • Maintain office hours at the Greystone building and in the RA office in Vineyard Lodge I. This includes nights and weekends, as required.
  • Provide on-call duty coverage for residence hall emergencies after hours.
  • Coordinate the completion of tasks which are related to the operational aspects of the residence halls. This includes check-in and check-out procedures for Associate and visiting semester-away Bachelor students, coordinating maintenance and housekeeping requests; conducting fire/health/safety inspections; and performing other aspects as needed.
  • Create and implement all check in, move in, move out and orientation protocols.
  • Meet all administrative paperwork deadlines.
  • Collaborate with community partners to procure off campus properties for off campus housing options.
  • Serve on committees as assigned.
  • Uphold all standards of the CIA as outlined in the student handbook and the employee handbook.
  • Any and all other duties as assigned.
  • REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Experience:

  • Minimum of one to two (1-2) years of Residence Life experience as a Residence Hall Director (RD), Student Activities Coordinator or a similar position.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's Degree in College Student Personnel Administration, Student Affairs, Higher Education, Counseling, or related field of study.
  • Prior experience serving as a Residence Hall Director or as a Graduate Assistant in Residence Life, Student Activities, or a Student Affairs related position.
  • Prior experience supervising student staff.
  • Bilingual in Spanish.
  • Experience with StarRez Residence Life System.
  • Experience with Maxient Conduct Manager.
  • REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and conceptual skills.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills; ability to be adaptable, dependable and handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to use sound judgment and discretion in handling sensitive student related issues with confidentiality and discretion.
  • Excellent written, verbal communication, and presentation skills required.
  • Must have demonstrated ability in organizational, time management, problem solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong computer experience, which must include abilities to work effectively with tracking systems and MS Office suite products, i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Live-in professional position that requires a mixture of daytime, evening, and weekend work hours.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry 50 pounds with assistance.
