    GENERAL DESCRIPTION:


    The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is committed to providing a safe, high-quality, and efficient transportation system for the State of Wyoming.


    We are seeking an Engineer II for the Traffic Program specific to Electrical Engineering and Traffic Design located in Cheyenne, Wyoming.


    The purpose of this position is to assist the supervisory Traffic/Electrical Engineer in performing work assigned to the traffic-electrical design section and contribute to WYDOT's mission to provide a safe and efficient transportation system.


    Responsibilities include electrical system evaluations statewide for traffic signals, lighting, road closure systems, ITS devices, and other various electrical systems.

    Provide the traveling public positive guidance through the design of traffic/electrical systems in accordance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, the National Electrical Code, Standard Plans, and Electrical Manual.

    This ensures our designs are in line with the WYDOT Traffic Program's Mission to provide safe and efficient state highways through high-quality traffic electrical systems.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


    The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.


    Ensures accuracy of project plans by assisting in the prompt checking of project documents produced by the design section and estimating costs of the electrical design.

    Develops and reviews various traffic/electrical engineering lighting designs. Review
    lighting designs for impact on the state highway system and provide recommendations for improvement/mitigation.
    Develops electrical system design plans by collecting information from different
    programs within the department that conform to the department standards, the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), and the National Electrical Code
    (NEC).
    Assist in the State Fire Marshal Office (SFMO) plan review process for all electrical
    design plans.
    Assist in updating and maintaining the Electrical WYDOT Traffic Program policy
    manual.
    Learn the current practices in traffic signal design, lighting design, ITS design, and
    various other electrical designs regarding the MUTCD, the NEC, and WYDOT standards.


    PREFERENCES:
    Preference may be given to candidates with a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.


    KNOWLEDGE:
    Knowledge of Traffic and/or Electrical Engineering Principles, WYDOT policies, and
    State and National Standards which include the MUTCD, and the NEC.
    Skills in Traffic and/or Electrical Engineering Analysis, written and oral
    communication, and presentations when dealing with public and private sectors.
    Ability to work with personnel within WYDOT, State and Local Governments, and
    the private sector to obtain approval of proposed plans.
    Working knowledge of Excel and Microstation.


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education :
    Bachelor's Degree (in Engineering)

    Experience:

    0-3 years of progressive work experience (in Engineering) with acquired knowledge at the level of Engineer I.


    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
    Engineer in Training (EIT) License is required or Fundamentals in Engineering (FE)

    One year of service to WYDOT must be completed, failure to complete this requirement will forfeit the hiring incentive, and funds will be recouped from final pay.


    Internal candidates would be required to remain in the position for a minimum of one (1) year from their promotion date.

    Employees would only be eligible for one (1) hiring bonus in a 12-month period.


    If the employee elects to downgrade through an active recruitment and/or appointment during the twelve (12) month period, they would be required to pay the bonus back.
