    Job Description:


    The College of Nursing at Radford University seeks an innovative leader who will capitalize on its strengths to build a nationally-recognized Nurse education program.

    The newly-designated College of Nursing has been recently fully re-accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. The College of Nursing is poised to become a national leader in Nursing education, service, and research.
    Radford University seeks an innovative and experienced Dean who will lead the College in:

    Increasing the number and diversity of nurses who graduate from Radford's undergraduate and graduate programs;

    Developing nurse education programs across Southwest Virginia in collaboration with community colleges and health care providers;


    Providing vision for regional interprofessional community-based health care; and expanding research that supports the mission of the College and the University.

    Major Responsibilities of Position

    Lead the faculty and staff of the College of Nursing in developing and delivering educational opportunities of the highest quality possible for students, consistent with the mission of the College.

    Develop research infrastructure for the College

    Promote the scholarly agenda and work of the faculty

    Attract, retain and assist students within the College

    Promote a collegial work atmosphere that facilitates faculty and student achievement

    Promote the overall excellence and welfare of Radford University.

    Represent the College to the University community and serve as a channel of communication on program, personnel and budget matters

    Serve as a collaborative member of the Academic Affairs Leadership Team, the Deans Council, and in partnership with the Provost to successfully meet the university's mission and strategic goals

    Create and maintain good relations across the entire university community; and advocate for faculty needs within the bounds of University and College goals and objectives

    Lead the School in procuring and managing fiscal, human, and physical resources.

    Coordinate in consultation with the College's faculty, the College's academic programs and physical facilities.

    Plan and administer the College's budget.

    Coordinate and recommend hiring of faculty and staff.

    Evaluate faculty and staff with support from other personnel.

    Make faculty work assignments with support from other personnel.

    Supervise staff and part-time faculty with support from other personnel.

    Provide a supportive environment, within the limitations of available resources, for faculty professional activities and goals.

    Represent the College, its goals and needs to other external, as well as internal, constituencies.

    Represent the College of Nursing to AACN, VACN, CCNE, BON and other external bodies.

    Oversee documentation and submission of all accreditation and program review requirements.

    Work with all external clinical partners on securing appropriate clinical learning environments.


    Oversee the Clinical Simulation Centers on the main campus and at RHEC, which serve multiple programs within Radford University and the greater healthcare community.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    Unencumbered RN license in Virginia;

    Excellence in education, professional and scholarly contributions, and service befitting a tenured Professor in the College of Nursing at Radford University;

    Experience in areas of curriculum and program development, student recruitment and retention, faculty recruitment and development, and/or fiscal management;

    Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with students, faculty, staff, and administration; and

    Ability to take initiative and work independently and in teams to meet the objectives of academic initiatives


    Preferred Qualifications:
    Board certification in Nursing Education or other area of specialization

    An established record of securing externally funded grants

    Experience in offering education in multiple program delivery modes (traditional, hybrid, online)

    Experience in working with community and healthcare partners
