    Position Summary

    In this role your accounting support experience will be in support of the Planning and Public Works Maintenance and Operations Administrative and Fiscal team. Here you will team with the M&O Division by providing timely, responsive, and accurate customer service, and accounting support. Software you will use in this role include Excel, WinCAM, Workday, and other proprietary systems. This support enables the division to meet its mission to safely maintain and operate the County's road, river, and stormwater systems. Your efforts here will have direct impact on the communities of Pierce County.

    Core Daily Responsibilities:
    • Perform budget and accounting work involving the areas of accounts payable, balancing and being custodian of accounts, and/or other accounting support activities as required.
    • Process and audit a variety of financial documents and accounting records, including but not limited to vouchers, claims for expenses, contract expenditures, payroll records, program files, time cards, and assure compliance with general accounting practices, state or county laws, contract provisions or grants.
    • Perform accurate accounting of Washington State BARS account code distribution.
    • Complete budget and grant accounting work including research, input, budget transfers, analysis, forecasting, estimates and revision.
    • Input, balance and batch information into financial information systems; post accounts receivable.
    • Monitor and reconcile budget documents, financial transactions, general expenses, contract expenditures, cash receipts and revenues; report discrepancies and/or over/under expenditures; make adjustments as assigned.
    • Assist in the preparation of monthly reports; prepare daily, monthly and/or other scheduled reports.
    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • A resume and cover letter are required for this position that details your accounts payable and customer service experience.
    • High school diploma or GED.
    • Two years of progressively responsible bookkeeping, accounting, auditing, or closely related work experience required.
    • college-level course work in bookkeeping or accounting may substitute for one-year experience.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Previous high-volume accounts payable and customer service preferred.
    Compensation range is from $25.91 to $32.28

    Our benefits:

    Vacation (Annual Leave)
    After approximately six months, employees receive six days of vacation leave.
    Since we value your experience, the amount of vacation you can accrue increases the longer you work with us. Vacation accrues on a bi-weekly basis for full-time employees as follows:

    A maximum of 45 days may be carried from one year into the next.

    Military Leave:
    Pierce County has a proud history of supporting the armed forces and provides members of the armed forces with up to 21 days paid military leave per state fiscal year.

    Holidays:
    Some full-time employees are entitled to eleven paid holidays as follows:

    New Year's Day - January 1

    Memorial Day - Last Monday in May
    Juneteenth - June 19
    Independence Day - July 4

    Personal Holidays:
    Regular full-time and regular part-time employees, and employees occupying limited duration positions, shall also receive two additional paid personal holidays. Paid personal holidays shall only accrue for those employees on County payroll as of January 1 of each year or the first work day following January 1 and must be taken during the calendar year in which it was accrued.

    Furlough:
    Some Pierce County employees may be designated to receive 10 "furlough" days per year in lieu of holidays. Furlough days are available for use on January 1 and must be scheduled and taken within the calendar year. Employees who leave employment with Pierce County must reimburse the employer for used furlough days based upon the number of remaining holidays.

    Sick Leave:
    Sick leave accrues on a bi-weekly basis, at the rate of one day per month.

    Retirement and Deferred Compensation:

    Employees also have the ability to participate in the Nationwide Deferred Compensation Plan. This is a supplemental retirement savings program that allows you control over the amount of pre-tax salary dollars you defer as well as the flexibility to choose between multiple investment options.

    Social Security:
