REPORTS TO Sr. Mechanical Engineer

STATUS Full-time (onsite in Sorrento Mesa)

COMPENSATION Hourly, Starting Range $35-$45 per hour, DOE

POSITION SUMMARY

The Engineering Technician supports the engineering team by performing system and machine testing, implementing upgrades, and identifying and reporting issues.

This role will also be responsible for bring up and final testing of new instruments, maintaining tools/fixtures, and performing routine preventive maintenance to ensure equipment reliability.

The technician works closely with Engineers to ensure machines operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with performance standards.

Key Responsibilities
Perform functional, performance, and system-level testing on machines and equipment
Assist in machine upgrades, adjustments, and hardware/software modifications
Identify and report technical issues during testing
Document test results, anomalies, and performance data thoroughly
Support qualification, verification, and validation testing activities per documented procedures.
Identify and report nonconforming materials or process deviations
Maintain, organize, and upkeep all tools and testing fixtures
Maintain accurate records of testing procedures, PM activities, and machine history
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized lab and work area
Identify and resolve basic mechanical, electrical, and software issues
Adhering to all quality, safety, and regulatory guidelines and procedures

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Education:
A minimum of an Associate's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Biomedical Engineering, a related field, or equivalent industry-relevant or military training
Hands-on experience in machine testing, diagnostics, or equipment troubleshooting

Technical Skills:
Strong understanding of mechanical, fluidic, and electronic systems; ability to read and interpret schematics and technical documentation; proficiency with diagnostic tools and software
High attention to detail and thorough documentation skills
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills; ability to explain technical concepts clearly and patiently to various audiences.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., stand for extended periods, bend, stoop, and perform physical tasks associated with equipment maintenance.

Preferred qualifications (NOT REQUIRED)
Preventive maintenance experience on industrial or automated equipment
Background working in manufacturing, R&D, automation, robotics, or machinery
Experience with maintaining fixtures, jigs, and specialized testing equipment
