- Utilizes critical thinking skills and knowledge of evidence-based practices (relative to specialty area) to improve their patients' plans of care.
- Practices solid communication skills and can articulate the patient's condition to other care providers, offering recommendations for changes in patient care / unit practices & communicating any safety hazards to peers and leadership.
- Provides patient documentation that is comprehensive and promotes communication between caregivers.
- Creates a healing environment for patients by applying a _Relationship Based Care_ framework to their nursing process.
- Demonstrates knowledge of adult learning principles (and/or teaching children if applicable) and applies in teaching of patients, families, students and new staff.
- Supports the development of students, new staff and colleagues, may serve as a preceptor.
- Minimum 1-year of RN experience required (for casual positions)
- BSN preferred, but not required.

Position Summary:
Ø Casual Requirements - 36 hours per 6-week scheduling period, 12 out of 36 hours must be weekend hours.
Ø 1 winter holiday per calendar year.
Ø Variety of shifts (night / weekend shift differentials provided)
Purpose
The Professional Staff Nurse (RN) is a valuable member of the care delivery team - setting the standards for the quality of patient care.
This role provides a variety of patient care activities to a group of patients and their families through the application of independent judgment, communication, and collaboration with colleagues.
The Professional Staff Nurse encompasses leadership, partnership, collaboration, and supervision.In this role, establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with physicians, other healthcare professionals, patients, and their families is vital to achieving the best patient outcomes and continuum of care.
The Professional Staff Nurse Demonstrates a commitment to the community and to the nursing profession.Responsibilities:
Qualifications:
The individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below.
They must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patients status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patients requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.
Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.
Good clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical and problem solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care.
Mobility and visual manual dexterity. Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting and positioning of patients.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
UPMC approved national certification preferred. Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in practicing state.
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
