- Ability to operate various types of light, medium and heavy-duty trucks, equipment and tools in a safe and efficient manner.

- Ability to independently perform major repairs and maintenance on a variety of diesel and gasoline trucks and equipment.

VDOT's Staunton District Winchester Equipment Shop is seeking a highly qualified Equipment Repair Technician.
As the qualified candidate, you will diagnose, repair, inspect and maintain motorized and mechanical equipment related to construction, highway maintenance, grounds, and automotive equipment of all types and in varied locations.

VDOT is an emergency response agency, therefore you will work outside of normal work hours during emergency operations when services are needed.
NOTE:
All drivers hired without a valid CDL in hand are required to obtain their CDL within 11 months of their hire date.
You cannot operate commercial motor vehicles prior to receiving the necessary licensure and medical certification.Effective February 7, 2022, new Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations require entry-level drivers (drivers who are seeking to take the skills test in order to obtain a CDL for the first time, upgrade their CDL to a Class A from a Class B, or take the knowledge test to obtain a hazardous materials endorsement for the first time) to complete FMCSA- approved Entry-Level Driving (ELD) Training before the Department of Motor Vehicles can grant the requested CDL or endorsement.
The course is comprised of 160 hours, on average, of training.VDOT is willing to assist with your enrollment in and payment for the course upon your acceptance of an ELD Training Tuition tenure and repayment agreement.
