    Production Planner

    :

The production planner is responsible for planning and utilizing the company's shop capacity to meet the company's goals and customers' delivery requirements.

    Essential Functions

Production planning will involve arranging people and materials at the right time to allow them to produce the equipment and all related activities (testing, packaging, shipping) leading up to the shipment date.

    Key Job Elements:

    • Determine how many manhours it takes to complete the various stages for machine production, or to obtain those estimates from the shop supervisors or other knowledgeable person(s).
    • Develop a schedule with enough manpower assigned to complete the order at the desired shipping date. Adjust schedules as customer needs change and communicate to the PM.
    • Compare the needed manpower with all other customer orders also being scheduled at that same time period to ensure they can also be completed as scheduled.
    • Determine the time frame needed to procure the materials and determine what date they would need to be ordered to arrive at the plant on the future date you have scheduled for starting production. Planner shall use a "pull" system to determine project schedules.
    • Inform the Engineering managers of the required drawing release dates. Coordinate with the design group to indicate in detail which drawing packages you need. In some cases, specify if an immediate release of the known materials is needed, with the unknown details to follow later.
    • Monitor the drawing releases as they are issued and ensure the materials are ordered as soon as possible, and assist when necessary. In cases where the item is not easily ordered, instruct the Project manager to do so with respect to the intended schedule.
    • Update the schedules and revise monthly, weekly and daily goals accordingly. The Planner must let supervisors know which milestones must be met in the foreseeable future.
    • When the delivery date is threatened, the Planner informs Operations, Engineering, and Project Manager (where applicable) to ensure they are aware that a deadline is not being met and the legitimate schedule may be in jeopardy. The Planner will be tasked with looking at the current schedule to identify where changes might be made to meet the original schedule.
    Other Duties and Interactions

    • Provide timely information regarding problems in production that may adversely affect quality, delivery or customer requirements as soon as they are known.
    • Most frequent interaction will be multiple times daily with shop floor supervisors, inventory & Logistics, engineering manager, key suppliers, and material controller. Secondary interaction will be with Director of Operations, Tech Service, and Project Managers.
    • Establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships and communications with all levels to assure positive intercompany relations.
    • Conduct routine production coordination meetings between shop supervisors, Engineering Managers, and materials functions to ensure they are all aware of the goals for the day, week, or other period covered by the meeting
    • Attend and document requirements of new orders at kick-off meetings
    • Be able to respond readily to "what if" questions which may ask how long it would take for us to build a potential new order.
