The RN assures that the philosophy, mission, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of Fort Smith Mercy Medical and Mercy Outpatient Surgery Center are followed.
Is sensitive to the needs of patients, families and fellow co-workers; plans and provides professional nursing care for patients in accordance with age specific needs, plans and provides professional nursing care for patients in accordance with any identified cultural diversity needs (such as religions, lifestyles, beliefs, physical capabilities, and cultures); plans and provides professional nursing care for patients by assuring appropriate and effective pain management; and supports the mission of Mercy.

skilled and caring Pre‑Op RN
to join our Cardiovascular Pre-Operative team.
In this role, you'll prepare patients for surgery, provide exceptional education and support, and ensure a smooth, safe experience from the moment they arrive.

As a Pre‑Op RN, you will:
Patient Care & Preparation
Perform comprehensive pre‑operative assessments—physical, emotional, and mental.
Ensure all documentation is complete (H&Ps, consents, labs, EKGs, radiology, etc.).
Prepare patients for surgery efficiently while following all hospital standards.
Provide clear pre‑operative teaching and emotional support.
Assess pain and discuss postoperative expectations.
Clinical Excellence
Maintain strong IV skills and knowledge of medications administered pre‑op.
Document accurately in Epic (assessment, allergies, meds, vitals, pain, orders, checklists).
Identify concerns and communicate promptly with anesthesia, surgeons, and OR staff.
Utilize all patient safety checklists and follow infection control standards.
Teamwork & Communication
Keep the OR team updated on patient readiness and any schedule changes.
Collaborate closely with all surgical team members to ensure continuity of care.
Support teammates and contribute to a positive, respectful work environment.
Operational Responsibilities
Maintain department organization, supplies, and patient flow.
Ensure accurate charge capture and cost‑effective practices.
Uphold confidentiality, professionalism, and the Mercy mission and values.
Required:
Graduate of an accredited nursing program
Current RN licensure (state of practice)
CPR certification
1 year of hospital or cardiac experience preferred
Preferred:
2 years of hospital cardiac telemetry experience
ACLS certification
