- Set medical protocols and oversee compliance with Exotics veterinarians
- Ensure that all patients are triaged and treated promptly
- Ensure that all doctors and technicians offer best patient options to every client
- Ensure quality of patient care by all doctors and aid Hospital Owners in conducting performance reviews and improvement plans
- Ensure rounds are performed daily and at each shift change
- Ensure that all doctors fully document patient medical records to support care offered and facilitate easy communication in multi-doctor setting
- Ensure all medical records sent to referring veterinarians on time
- Ensure that all clients are provided with correct and informative discharge summaries at this time of patient discharge
- Conduct periodic audits of records/invoicing for accuracy and efficiency
- Coordinate the DVM schedules and work toward filling all necessary DVM shifts for full coverage
- Work with staff/management in identifying all personnel needs
- Help with all schedule optimizations periodically

Job Description:
The Exotics Department Head (Board Eligible/Certified) handles managing the quality of veterinary medicine and implementing medical strategy within the hospital's Exotics specialty service.
The Medical Director shares the practice owner's vision of gold standard medicine within a collaborative and supportive environment and the operational and financial goals of the practice. The Exotics Department Head is the immediate supervisor of the Exotics Department, Exotics Veterinarians, and veterinary support staff.
The goal of the Exotics Department Head position is to provide overall training, supervision, organization, direction, evaluation, and accountability within the Exotics specialty and to act as a meaningful and operational coordinator between the specialty, emergency, administrative, and management team.
Reports To: Mount Laurel Animal Hospital Leadership
Education and Experience:
Required: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, American College of Veterinary Medicine (Internal Medicine) or American College of Emergency and Critical Care Board Certification or Equivalent experience
Required: 3+ Years of experience in directing a Veterinary Department (Exotics preferred)

We are proud to offer medical and surgical care for many exotic pet species. Our team of 4 exotic veterinarians allows us to offer appointments 6-7 days a week, in addition to having our highly trained, 24-hour emergency staff handling exotic emergencies around the clock, every day of the year We have a separate exotic ward where our exotic patients stay during their visit with us.
