    Position Title

Piano Instructor (Part-Time, Variable Schedule; W-2 Employee)
StevensED LLC — StevensED Piano Studio / Office of the Bursar

    Position Summary

StevensED LLC seeks a Piano Instructor to provide private piano instruction within an orderly, disciplined, and carefully guided studio environment. This appointment supports the institution's commitment to classical formation, serious study, and the steady cultivation of musical literacy, technical command, and refined artistic judgment. Instruction is delivered according to StevensED's curriculum and studio standards so that families receive a consistent and principled educational experience.

This is a W-2, part-time role with a variable schedule determined by student enrollment and institutional need. StevensED does not guarantee any minimum number of students, lessons, or hours. Lesson assignments and weekly teaching load may fluctuate by season, term, and family availability.

    Institutional Mission and Studio Ethos

StevensED Piano Studio operates on the conviction that music education is a form of formation: the training of attention, patience, and moral responsibility through disciplined practice and enduring repertoire. The instructor is expected to uphold a studio culture marked by respect, seriousness of purpose, and fidelity to standards. StevensED's instruction emphasizes foundational technique, reading fluency, theory and structure, and the steady acquisition of repertoire appropriate to the student's stage of growth.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Provide high-quality private piano instruction to StevensED students in accordance with StevensED's curriculum sequence, pedagogical standards, and studio policies.
    2. Establish and maintain clear expectations for practice, preparation, and progress, fostering habits of consistency, integrity, and personal accountability appropriate to the student's age and maturity.
    3. Assign weekly practice material and goals consistent with StevensED's curriculum, including technique, sight-reading, ear training as applicable, theory integration, and repertoire development.
    4. Maintain instructional records as required by StevensED, including lesson notes, repertoire tracking, and progress documentation to support continuity, evaluation, and institutional oversight.
    5. Communicate with families in a professional, measured, and courteous manner through StevensED's approved channels, reflecting the institution's commitment to clarity, respect, and proper boundaries.
    6. Observe and implement StevensED attendance, cancellation, and make-up policies, and cooperate with administrative procedures designed to protect instructional continuity and reserved studio capacity.
    7. Participate in periodic training, review, and quality assurance as directed by StevensED, including alignment on curriculum delivery, student benchmarks, and instructional consistency.
    8. Safeguard student information and institutional materials, including curriculum resources, library books, and StevensED business records, and return institutional property promptly upon request or separation from employment.

    Schedule and Assignment of Work

This position is scheduled according to student demand and operational needs. StevensED assigns students and coordinates scheduling standards. The teaching load may vary, and StevensED reserves discretion to reassign students, consolidate schedules, or adjust lesson times to meet institutional requirements and family needs.

    Requirements

    Minimum Qualifications

    1. Demonstrated piano proficiency sufficient to teach beginning through intermediate students, with secure reading ability, foundational technique, and familiarity with standard pedagogical repertoire.
    2. Demonstrated capacity to teach within a defined curriculum and to uphold consistent institutional standards rather than an ad hoc or purely improvisational approach.
    3. Professional reliability, including punctuality, preparedness, appropriate decorum, and timely communication.
    4. Ability to teach minors and work with families within a structured educational environment, including adherence to institutional policies and expectations.
    5. Sound judgment and an evident respect for the teacher's role as a steward of students' time, attention, and development.

    Preferred Qualifications

    1. Collegiate study in piano performance, pedagogy, music education, or a closely related discipline.
    2. Experience implementing structured lesson progressions integrating technique, sight-reading, and theory, with measurable outcomes over time.
    3. Experience preparing students for evaluations, adjudications, juries, or examinations consistent with a standards-based studio model.
    4. Evidence of strong student retention and steady progress outcomes rooted in disciplined practice expectations and clear instruction.

    Professional Standards and Institutional Requirements

    1. Instructors must uphold StevensED's curriculum requirements, documentation standards, and studio operational policies.
    2. Instructors must protect StevensED confidential information, including student lists, contact information, scheduling information, tuition status, and internal instructional records.
    3. Instructors must represent StevensED with professionalism, restraint, and respect in all communications, and must conduct instruction in a manner consistent with the institution's standards of order and propriety.

    Application Materials

    1. Resume or curriculum vitae detailing musical training and teaching experience.
    2. Brief statement describing teaching experience and the applicant's willingness to teach within a structured curriculum and standards-based studio model.
    3. Optional materials upon request: references, repertoire list, or a short teaching demonstration.

    Benefits

    Compensation

Compensation is paid as W-2 wages in accordance with StevensED's published pay schedule for this position. Wages may be structured per delivered lesson and may include performance incentives tied to instructional consistency, policy compliance, documentation timeliness, and student retention, as determined by StevensED.

    Benefits and Institutional Supports

    1. Administrative and Bursar Support: Enrollment administration, invoicing, payment collection, account standing, and tuition processing are handled through the StevensED Office of the Bursar.
    2. Student Pipeline: Students enroll through StevensED and are assigned in accordance with demand, scheduling needs, and instructional fit.
    3. Curriculum and Instructional Standards: StevensED provides an established curriculum framework and institutional standards to promote coherent instruction and measurable progress.
    4. Institutional Piano Library Access: Instructors may access StevensED's institutional piano book library and approved instructional resources for use with StevensED students, subject to checkout and return requirements.
    5. Operational Structure: StevensED provides studio policies and procedures designed to protect instructional capacity, reduce administrative friction, and maintain a stable and respectful studio experience for students and families.
