Job summary
Under general supervision and following established procedures orders laboratory tests in the laboratory information system LIS handles processes and prepares patient samples for transportation and distribution to appropriate laboratories for testing Verifies patient specimen identification throughout the process.
Responsibilities
- Determines acceptability of patient specimen condition timing container type etc Consults Medical Laboratory Scientist when needed Positively ID specimens against requisitions appropriately labels specimens Completes specimen handling processing including centrifugation of vacutainer aliquoting pouring over of specimens Aliquots adjusts pH of 24-hour urine specimens as required by location Documents follows up on problems Locates specimens for add-on testing Maintains minimum supply levels maintains cleanliness of workstation section Provides input on policies procedures Assists in training new employees students Reviews completes assigned continuing education documents Performs documents routine quality control equipment centrifuge refrigerator temperatures as required by location Maintains good rapport cooperative relationships Approaches conflict constructively Helps identify problems offers solutions participates resolution Maintains confidentiality information acquired pertaining patients physicians associates visitors Trinity Health Discusses patient hospital information among appropriate personnel private places Adheres to all hospital HIPAA privacy policies Behaves accordance Mission Vision Values Trinity Health Assumes responsibility performance job duties safest possible manner assure personal safety coworkers report preventable hazards unsafe practices immediately management
