Overview

Responsible for providing specialized nursing care that requires significant expertise and skill. This expertise is founded on a deep understanding of natural, behavioral, and nursing sciences. Demonstrates appropriate behavior aligned with MLH Mission, Vision, and Values.

Educational Requirements and Experience

Credentials/Licensure

MANDATORY:

• Graduate of a recognized nursing school.

Effective August 1, 2014 , new hires (newly hired or rehired at MLH) or current Associates entering this role must fulfill one of the following criteria:

1. Possess a bachelor's degree or higher in nursing from an accredited program;
2. Currently pursuing a nursing degree to obtain a BSN or MSN within 3 years of employment (written agreement required); or
3. Agree to enroll in a nursing program to complete a BSN or MSN within 3 years of employment.

Licensed as a professional nurse in the state of practice or possess a compact license.

Effective June 1, 2018: BLS certification is mandatory for all new hires and transfers.

SUBSTITUTIONS ACCEPTED:

Effective 10/1/2016 : Instead of the BSN requirement, some MLH facilities might consider hiring a licensed RN with an Associate's Degree and at least three (3) years of clinical experience. The obligation to obtain a BSN within three (3) years from hire date could be waived at some MLH sites.

• Demonstrates proficiency in applying complex nursing principles, concepts, and techniques.
• Possesses analytical skills required to effectively assess complex patient conditions and develop comprehensive care plans. Capable of synthesizing information from various sources to address human responses to complex issues.

Main Job Responsibilities

• Accurate and timely patient assessments.
• Develops a holistic care plan based on thorough assessment, desired outcomes, and current knowledge.
• Safely executes the patient care plan either directly or through delegation.
• Regularly evaluates the patient care plan.
• Communicates effectively in written and verbal forms with patients/families and other healthcare team members.
• Models and encourages professional conduct among all nursing care team members.

Physical Demands

• Frequent direct and indirect patient interactions.
• Exposure to patient fluids and potentially hazardous materials.
• Must react promptly in emergency situations.
• Ability to administer necessary medications.
• Good communication skills for oral and written interactions.
• Normal hearing and vision, including color, night, and peripheral vision.
• Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs. without assistance and pushing/pulling up to 250 lbs.
• Able to stand, walk, climb stairs, sit, squat, kneel, reach, bend, crawl, and twist throughout a shift.
• Proficient in repetitive hand and wrist movements, gripping, squeezing, and coordinated hand-foot actions.
• Possess good hand-eye coordination.
