Vanessa Garcia

Multimedia journalist based in Los Angeles, CA. My journalism skills focus on video/audio reporting and production. I recently graduated from Columbia University - Graduate School of Journalism with a Master of Science. 

I am currently looking to start my career as a multimedia journalist/ producer to report news on local levels, as my heart initially belongs to covering intimate human interest stories that present diversity. 

From September 2021 to May 2022, I worked as an Editorial Assistant for the KCSN 88.5 FM Newsroom. I managed about 30 CSUN Journalism students weekly and guided them to deliver live newscasts under strict deadlines. I assigned stories, wrote/edited scripts, researched soundbites, created show rundowns using Rundown Creator, and anchored live newscasts, reporting local, national, business, sports, and entertainment news stories. 

From August 2021 to April 2022, I worked as Social Media Coordinator for the Cal State Northridge R.T.D.N.A chapter. I used graphic design platforms to create animated images and was in charge of posting content on all social media platforms. 

From Jun 2021 to September 2021, I was a news intern for KCRW. I worked with producers and wrote stories for the morning and afternoon programs, pitched relevant stories, and researched soundbites from online sources. I also assisted with transcribing live events and conducted interviews. 

I am a 2022 Cal State Northridge Journalism graduate and, most recently, a Columbia University graduate with a Master of Science from the Graduate School of Journalism in New York City.
