Susan Archibald

I am an experienced pianist, who has worked as a collaborative pianist in different post-secondary and freelance situations for the past three decades.

Pianist Susan Archibald, is originally from Nova Scotia, Canada. Her playing as a collaborative pianist has been described as being performed, “musically and sympathetically” (Globe and Mail, Toronto). She has been working as a collaborative pianist for the past few decades, first in Toronto (Canada) at the University of Toronto, as well as the Royal Conservatory of Music. In 2001, she was hired at the Shepherd School of Music, Rice University in Houston, TX, where she worked for 13 years. She is currently living in Bloomington, Indiana, and working as a collaborative pianist at Butler University in Indianapolis.

At age 18, she was a top prize winner in the Canadian Music Competitions. She has also accompanied top prize winners in the Munich International Competition, Montreal International Competition, as well as other international and national competitions for strings and winds. She has performed in recitals with members of the Cleveland, Philadelphia, Toronto, Houston, Dallas, San Diego, National Symphony and other orchestras in the U.S. and Canada.

She has been heard in performance on NPR's Talk of the Nation, Bavarian Radio, CBC Radio (Canada) and Radio- Canada (French branch of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation). She also performed frequently in recitals with her late husband, violinist Sergiu Luca, in the U.S.. Canada and Europe. Susan also worked for several years as an accompanist in summer music festivals and schools, including the Meadowmount and Encore Schools for Strings, as well as at the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara. Her formal studies include receiving her Bachelor of Music in piano performance from the University of British Columbia (Vancouver), an Artist Diploma from the Royal Conservatory of Toronto, and a Master of Music from the Cleveland Institute of Music in Collaborative Piano.
