Healthcare
About Sue Mueller:
I have worked in the medical field for over 20 years, most recently as an Emergency Room Technician. I have recently “retired” from my primary job and am looking for something more flexible, part time. I have technical skills as well as outstanding interpersonal skills. Having worked as an ER Tech has given me an extremely wide range of experience in medical procedures including codes and lifesaving measures and a greater understanding of medical conditions. I am also a CERT volunteer with Emergency Disaster training as well.

As an ICT, my responsibilities included assisting Acupuncture and Chiropractic Services. I greeted patients, took vitals, and provided assistance as needed. I was also in charge of stocking medical supplies and cleaning rooms between patients. All visits were charted according to hospital and HIPAA standards, utilizing the VA Patient Centered Care program.

Emergency Covid-19 Response Team Leader: Transitioned from the Laboratory to the Response team. Conducted Covid-19 testing at Medical Center entrances. Selected for the team based on Emergency Department training at VA Puget Sound.
VA Southern Nevada HCS, 6900 N Pecos Rd, North Las Vegas, NV, Full-time Healthcare Technician, Phlebotomist, Inpatient Laboratory
Responsibilities included drawing blood specimens from patients for testing, verifying patient identification, and resolving any discrepancies. I selected and prepared venipuncture sites, considering patient comfort, the volume of blood required, and sample quality. I adhered to bio-safety precautions and isolation procedures, minimizing patient discomfort. I labeled tubes with laboratory-generated accession labels and other necessary information (e.g., time, date, initials). I performed venipunctures using barrel needle or butterfly needle collection devices to ensure high-quality specimens. I followed protocols for special handling and collection of blood samples (e.g., blood cultures, specimens on ice). When unable to collect a blood sample, I informed the responsible nursing staff and completed the required documentation. I managed specimen returns, communicated any "STAT" or "Immediate" requests, accepted specimens into the computer system, and kept documentation current, informing laboratory personnel of any specimens not obtained.
