Sophia Cassano

Hello! I am Sophia, a 24-year-old Assistant Teacher with a degree in History and Museum Studies from Towson University. With a passion for working with children, I value creativity, organization, and self-sufficiency in both my professional and personal life. My background in customer service has reinforced my strong work ethic and ability to adapt in fast-paced environments. Outside of work, I enjoy reading, learning American Sign Language, and exploring the city to broaden my horizons.

I have a diverse background in education, customer service, and administrative support. Currently, I serve as an Assistant Teacher at The Julia Brown Montessori School, where I assist in the care and education of children aged 1-3, focusing on individualized learning and positive behavioral management. My experience at Hayfields Country Club allowed me to develop strong customer service skills in roles such as waitressing, bartending, and as an Administrative Assistant, where I supported operations across multiple departments, coordinated events, and served as the lead trainer for new staff. Additionally, I gained valuable experience as an intern at the Historical Society of Baltimore County, where I worked on archival projects, cataloging over 400 documents. 

I graduated from Towson University in May 2022 with a Bachelor of Science in History and Museum Studies. Throughout my studies, I developed a strong interest in U.S. History, research, and writing. My minor in Museum Studies provided me with a deeper understanding of the operations and functions of museums, galleries, and historical sites. During my senior year, I participated in an Independent Research Study in collaboration with the Black Yield Institute and the Anthropology Department. This experience involved working at BYI’s urban farm in Baltimore’s Cherry Hill neighborhood, where I explored the intersections of race, socioeconomic status, and food apartheid. Through this hands-on research, I gained valuable insights into Baltimore’s complex historical and political relationship with race and class.
