Shawn Bettencourt

I am going through quite a career transition. I'm a current mechanical engineering student and B.F.A graduate with a background in digital media. Graphic design, animation, commercial production, data management, UI/UX, and front-end web development are all areas I focused in while growing as an independent freelancer. 

Before committing to this transition, I led multiple creative teams for small online businesses, managing projects from concept to execution. My experience allowed me to quickly secure entry-level work as a 3D designer and laser-scanning technician where I reverse engineer machine components for major manufacturing plants. It has been a great challenge to apply my design background towards real-world engineering puzzles. 

I am extremely passionate about understanding complex problems, optimizing processes, and collaborating with client needs and fabrication capabilities. 

• 3D Designer & Scan Technician

• Conduct on-site 3D scanning of industrial components at major manufacturing plants using Artec scanners to capture precision geometric data.
• Process and refine point cloud data to extract key features and generate parametric solid models for engineering analysis and redesign.

• Assess client needs by understanding component failure mechanisms, recommending design improvements, and exploring lifetime extension strategies. 
• Collaborate cross-functionally with engineers and clients to enhance component design, select optimal wear-resistant materials, and improve system performance.
