About Scott Pierce:

I worked as an attorney with a focus on sports law, taxation, and civil defense for approximately 8 and a half years before leaving the profession to work as an educator and coach. I am interested in information and I greatly enjoy public speaking and the art of persuasion. It gives me great joy to work with the youth in the hopes of building a brighter tomorrow.

Experience

After spending some time in the “legal career wilderness” I decided to join the “family business” by pursuing a career in academics and coaching.   I come from a long line of educators, coaches and college athletes. My father was a college professor, both of my grandmothers were educators, as was my maternal grandfather, and three uncles and two aunts also were educators. My grandfather was Athletic Director at Appalachian State University and my father and four uncles were college athletes.

My educational background, work experience, and college athletic career and coaching background have prepared me for this job.  Through my athletic career at both the college and high school levels I experienced the challenge of being a student athlete.  As my resume demonstrates I was successful as both an athlete and student during my track career at the University of South Carolina. The assistance I received from the academic advisor assigned to the track and field program was very important in helping me navigate both the University’s requirements and well as the NCAA academic requirements. My legal training has provided me with the skills and ability to understand and interpret the ever-changing NCAA rules and regulations.

Education

I graduated from the with Honors from the Honors College at the University of South Carolina while competing for four years as a multi-time scorer at the SEC Championships for Track & Field. I was captain of the team for my junior and senior years. I then graduated from the Gould School of Law at the University of Southern California. After graduation, I passed the California Bar exam and the South Carolina Bar Exam, each on my first attempt. I was admitted to the bar for each of these states before intentionally letting my licenses lapse while in good standing when I chose to move into education.
