Sara Bailey

My name is Sara Bailey and I am an aspiring  fashion designer and illustrator from Beaufort, North Carolina. In January 2021, I moved to  New York City to follow my passion and pursue a career in fashion. I am currently looking for opportunities to gain experience working in the industry.

In May 2021, I accepted a position at the Children’s Apparel Network as an Assistant Designer in Girl’s Licensing. Now, I would love the opportunity to get back into designing women’s wear and work with industry professionals to gain more experience.

In May 2020, I graduated with a BA in Design Studies at North Carolina State University. I studied techniques in hand and machine sewing, patternmaking, draping, embroidery, beadwork, and screenprinting. I studied abroad for six weeks in Florence, Italy at Accademia Italiana. I met with Italian designers and learned valuable fashion design skills from my instructors. I participated in NC State’s student organized fashion show, Art2Wear. My first collection, “POP!”, was created by upcycling 100% cotton knit materials into transformable clothing. My second collection, “SPLAT!”, designed with interchangeability in mind, included switchable garments. For the Art2Wear events I had to gather my own materials and accessories, create patterns, make garments, recruit my own models, organize fittings, coordinate hair and makeup looks, and choose the music for the runway walk. I feel that participating as a designer in the Art2Wear fashion shows has prepared me to work in the fashion industry because I gained experience in putting a collection together from start to finish.
I then moved to New York City and from January 2021 to May 2021, I studied at Parsons School of Design in the AAS Fashion Design Program. With experience in designing and making clothing, I felt that I was ready to apply my skills and pursue a career in fashion.
