About Safi Shams Muhtasimul Hoque:
I am a Ph.D. candidate at the University of South Carolina in the Department of Electrical Engineering and will graduate at the end of the fall semester, of 2023. My research and experience include physical layer signal processing techniques for wireless communications, sensing, and computations. Currently, I am working as a Research and Innovation intern at InterDigital. Inc, NY. I am working on signal processing techniques and algorithm design for the physical layer of next-generation WiFi networks (e.g., 802.11be). Additionally, I am actively engaged in exploring AI/ML-based methods for compressing CSI (Channel State Information). I am closely following and attending UHR-SG and AIML-TIG standard activities.

Education
I am a Ph.D. candidate at the University of South Carolina in the Department of Electrical Engineering and will graduate at the end of the fall semester, of 2023. My responsibilities involve developing signal processing techniques and algorithms for the physical layer of wireless communication systems, with applications in communication, sensing and distributed computations. Some of my contributions are listed as follows
Developed a signal processing technique to synthesize chirps of any shape by designing frequency-domain spectral shaping (FDSS) coefficients for DFT-s-OFDM systems; established a method of constructing Golay complementary sequences from a linear combination of chirps; developed a wideband index modulation (IM) technique based on circularly-shifted chirps (CSCs) to enable low peak-to-mean envelope ratio (PMEPR) communication; analyzed IM based on CSCs for dual-function radar & communication (DFRC) systems; developed an over-the-air computation(AirComp) scheme to implement a long-range federated edge learning (FEEL) system that works in the absence of channel state information (CSI) ; followed the 802.11 TGbf meetings; technically reviewed papers for prominent IEEE journals and conferences (e.g., ICC, GLOBECOM, WCNC)
