About Riley Suh:

My name is Riley Suh.

I am a recent Brown University Alum, where I earned my Bachelors in Public Health. While at Brown, I was a research assistant for two labs in the School of Public Health's Center for Alcohol and Addiction Studies.

I want to promote health justice and equity for underserved communities, particularly unhoused and impoverished people.

Experience

Research Assistant - UCSF Medical Center Thoracic Oncology Lab (August 2024)

  • I will support Dr. David Jablons and Vivianne Ding in the thoracic oncology lab to study tumorigenesis and to help develop new drugs that target cancer signaling pathways.

Patient and Guest Services Volunteer - Rhode Island Hospital (May 2024 - Present)

  • I volunteer weekly for 14 hours in the Patient and Guest Services office. In this position, I round the entire hospital, offering patients comfort and distraction materials like magazines or blankets. I also provide patients company, especially those in the hospital for extended periods or do not have visitors. I reunite patients with lost items, collecting items from various hospital departments and mailing them to their owners. I am comfortable using Epic Systems to access and manage patient information and  HIPAA compliance.

Research Assistant - Brown University School of Public Health, Stigma and Smoking in BIPOC Gay Men: A Qualitative Study (June 2023 - May 2024)

  • I recruited participants through distributing recruitment material, screened callers for eligibility, and coordinated with the study team. I also conducted visits and qualitative interviews with participants, later transcribing and coding the qualitative interviews.
  • I am a co-author of the main outcomes paper which is currently being reviewed for publication in a peer-reviewed journal.

Research Assistant - Brown University School of Public Health, Using E-Cigarettes and Nicotine Pouches to Reduce Harm for Low SES Cigarette Smokers: A Randomized Clinical Trial (March 2022 - Present) (March 2022 - May 2024)

  • I recruited participants and conducted visits and qualitative interviews with participants. I also collected patient data like urine samples, weight, height, blood pressure, and exhaled CO levels. I am a co-author on the main outcomes paper and a secondary qualitative paper. The main outcomes paper was published in the Journal of Nicotine & Tobacco Research (March 2024).
