About Nicholas Dawson:

I am a passionate and diligent SMP Cadet who has served less than four years in the Military Intelligence (MI) Community as a Geospatial Intelligence Imagery Analyst (35G). During that time, I gained experience working as both an FMV Team Lead and Mission Manager. I am now obtaining my education through American University’s School of International Service and am currently enrolled in the Georgetown University Army ROTC program. I’m enthusiastically seeking Internship Opportunities for Summer 2022 where I can utilize my analytical skills within different industries in order to better expand my career possibilities once I graduate with my bachelor’s degree. Lastly, I also possess an active Top Secret (TS/SCI) Security Clearance and am serving within an MI unit with the Maryland Army National Guard.

United States Army (Active Duty Component) (September 19, 2017 to June 18, 2021)

While serving in the United States Army (Active-Duty Component) within the Military Intelligence Community as a Geospatial Intelligence Imagery Analyst (35G) from 2017 to 2021 while possessing an active Top Secret (TS/SCI) security clearance, I provided Full-Motion Video (FMV) and imagery analysis in support of Global War on Terror (GWOT) operations and was responsible for exploiting FMV in a 24/7, 365-day multi-intelligence ARST floor/PED Cell under the 116th Military Intelligence Brigade (while I was stationed at Fort Gordon, Georgia). Throughout my Active-Duty tenure, I served in various GEOINT and FMV positions that included but was not limited to Mission Manager (MM), FMV Team Lead (TL), Geospatial Analyst (GA), MTI Analyst (MA), Imagery Analyst (IA), and Screener (SCR). In addition, I also served as a first-line supervisor/team leader for a group of subordinate soldiers within my platoon from March 2020 to March 2021.

My journey within the Military Intelligence Community first began once I attended United States Army Advanced Individual Training (AIT) at Fort Huachuca, Arizona with the 305th Military Intelligence Brigade from December 11, 2017 to June 13, 2018. While stationed here, I was enrolled in the rigorous six-month Geospatial Intelligence Imagery Analyst Course (242-35G10) within the United States Army Intelligence School. This course helped me develop the skills necessary to proficiently exploit various forms of geospatial imagery including but not limited to Panchromatic, Thermal Infrared (IR), Multi-Spectral (MSI), Visible, National, Commercial, Polarimetric, Hyperspectral, Electro-Optical (EO), Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR), Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR), Airborne Full-Motion Video (FMV), as well as both Fixed and Moving Target Indicator (MTI) data. Additionally, this course also provided in-depth training on tactical imagery identification, Battle Damage Assessment (BDA), remote sensing, security classifications, map reading and analysis, imagery analysis techniques, briefing, symbology, targeting, as well as the preparation and production of imagery analysis reports that fused geospatial products. Lastly, this course also taught me how to utilize various geospatial software which helped me gain technical expertise within my Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) before I arrived at my first duty station in June 2018.

While stationed at Fort Gordon, GA with the 116th Military Intelligence Brigade, I initially served as an Imagery Analyst (IA) and Screener (SCR) from October 2018 to January 2020 and then as an FMV Team Lead (TL) and Mission Manager (MM) from January 2020 to June 2021. During this entire period, I was directly involved in the development of 384 total Imagery Derived Products (IDPs) with 1,293 total accompanying graphics/file attachments in support of Geographical Combatant Commanders (GCC) in the AFRICOM, SOUTHCOM, and CENTCOM areas of operation. This was because I was ultimately chosen above 20 of my peers to serve as both an FMV Team Lead (TL) and Mission Manager (MM) where I was given the opportunity to supervise up to four assets on the Aerial Reconnaissance Surveillance Team (ARST) Cell on a daily basis. In addition, I conducted quality checks on classified Intelligence Reports before their publication and was also responsible for overseeing the exploitation of all intelligence information throughout the ARST. This resulted in multiple supported units receiving timely intelligence information before their missions and it also assisted with them developing patterns of life (PoL).

Additionally, I was also chosen to support USNORTHCOM civil support operations in the National Capital Region (NCR) that included support for the 2019 and 2020 State of the Union Addresses. I served as both an Imagery Analyst (IA) and FMV Team Lead (TL) for Aerial-Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (A-ISR) assets by delivering analysis that provided incident awareness to the Joint Task Force. Lastly, I also provided timely assessments during both Presidential speeches.

Lastly, I worked with a variety of technical geospatial software and computer programs including but not limited to MAAS Suite, AIDE Suite, Intelink, Palantir, DVA, ArcGIS, mIRC, PIDGIN, ChatSurfer, AIMES, DCGS-A Suite, DPED, Advanced Geospatial Intelligence Tool Kit, UVDS, Smart System, Realtime, NGDS, JWICS, VIDEX, DotMatrix, QT Modeler, VLC, GXP InMotion, SIPRNET, NIPRNET, GETS, DAART.US, NES, Google Earth SIPR, and SOCET.GXP, among others.

The Arc of Frederick County (June 5, 2017 to August 2017)

-While serving as both a Residential and Community Coach with the Arc of Frederick County, I received in-depth training with first-aid and general healthcare. In addition, I provided empathetic and emotional support to citizens with disabilities and their family members as needed.
-I worked to support and teach life skills to citizens with disabilities and special needs both publicly and privately.
-I helped with providing a manageable schedule, short-term and long-term goals, as well as a list of common tasks that needed to be completed throughout the day for citizens with disabilities.
-I assisted disabled citizens with feeding, cleaning, dressing, and other daily tasks.
