Neal Patel

I am a third-year Periodontics resident and chief resident at the Medical University of South Carolina, where I am completing both a Certificate in Periodontics and a Master of Science in Dentistry. Building on my Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from UNC, my training has provided extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of periodontal disease, hard and soft tissue augmentation, and implant therapy, with a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary, comprehensive care. In my role as chief resident, I help coordinate clinic operations and mentor junior residents, further strengthening my leadership, communication, and team-based skills. I am particularly committed to evidence-based treatment planning, clear and empathetic patient communication, and delivering meticulous surgical care that prioritizes long-term function and esthetics. I seek a position as an associate periodontist in a practice that values clinical excellence and patient-centered decision-making, where I can contribute meaningfully and grow as a clinician.

My clinical experience spans the full scope of contemporary periodontics: non‑surgical therapy, flap/osseous surgery, ridge and sinus augmentation, soft‑tissue grafting, guided tissue regeneration, ridge preservation and extractions, peri‑implantitis management, and complex implant rehabilitation of edentulous jaws, including use of digital workflows, in‑house guide fabrication, PRF, and oral/IV moderate sedation. I have a strong leadership record as chief resident and through multiple roles at UNC (interest group co‑chair, student government, fundraising chair, clinic coordinator), extensive teaching experience as a resident and predoctoral course TA, and a growing research portfolio that includes a master’s thesis on doxycycline and alveolar bone loss plus a shared–first‑author publication on student‑integrated telehealth, alongside prior cancer‑research experience. My training has been recognized with multiple academic and clinical awards, and I remain actively engaged in the specialty through national and regional periodontology organizations and hands‑on continuing education courses.

I am now a third‑year Periodontics resident and chief resident at the Medical University of South Carolina, where I am simultaneously earning a Certificate in Periodontics and a Master of Science in Dentistry, with training that includes Level 1–3 sedation certification and eligibility for the American Board of Periodontology.
