Morgan Bascom

I've worked in the equine industry professionally for over 5 years and personally for over 10 years. I've always loved horses and have strived to spend my life with them. From natural horsemanship clinics to online schooling, I am dedicated to learn as much as I can to care for horses in the best way possible. I've chosen to further my education in the equine field and am looking to branch into equine nutrition.

I've worked at a few stables as a groom over the past 6 years, from Colorado to Massachusetts. At a local stable in Fort Lupton known as Horse First Farm, I was in charge of the sole care for 22 horses, 2 cows, and a miniature donkey. The day to day care involved, feeding, cleaning, watering, turn in, turn out, medicating, and various maintenance around the farm. 

For a brief period, I was an assistant barn manager at Iron Horse Therapeutic Farm, as they searched for a full time manager. I was in charge of overseeing the care of the animals on site and the coordination of the volunteers. 

Most recently, I had the opportunity to work with high level driving horses and ponies in Massachusetts. I was hired on as a groom to provide care for the horses and also to prepare them to be driven. In addition to the daily care of the horses, I was responsible for daily grooming, weekly bathing, tacking up, hitching to carriage, cleaning tack after each use, and assisting the head trainer. 

Other tasks I have done are holding horses for vet and farrier appointments, teaching beginner lessons to children, exercise riding and schooling green horses.

I have taken some online courses to increase my knowledge of horses. I've taken Horse Health 101 and Biosecurity for Horses from My  Horse University (a national program for horse enthusiasts based at Michigan State University), receiving two certifications. I have also gotten certifications in Equine First Aid, Equine Nutrition and Gastrointestinal Health, and Equine Pasture and Facility Management from The Equine Institute.
