About Molei Zhang:

UT Austin music graduate with diversity of experience in composition and keyboard performance, including piano, organ, and carillon. Classically trained in piano from childhood, performing in solo and chamber settings regularly since 2009. Became Musical Director of the Guild of Student Carillonneurs at UT Austin, and certified as Associate Carillonneur by the Guild of Carillonneurs in North America. Some experience in organ performance and composition as substitute organist in Austin.

Composer, Butterfly Knot @ Texas Student Television, Austin, TX

  • Composed and produced the soundtrack to the pilot episode of TSTV’s first all-Mandarin romantic comedy series, Butterfly Knot
  • Coordinated closely with director Katherine Zhang and crew to adapt and edit the soundtrack to the specifications of the final delivery

December 2021 – January 2022

Substitute Organist, St. Luke’s on the Lake Episcopal Church, Austin, TX

  • Accompanied the congregation during hymns and played preludes and postludes for 2 Christmas services
  • Rehearsed with and accompanied the choir during anthems
  • Arranged and performed a jazz reharmonization of “Auld Lang Syne” as a New Year prelude

JUNE 2021 – AUGUST 2021

Summer Intern, Street Youth Ministry, Austin, TX

  • Provided one-on-one services at a drop-in center including food, clothing, and advice to homeless Austinites
  • Focused on youth aged 18 – 28, discussing with them issues including adjusting to homelessness, relationships, education, job-seeking, health, etc.
  • Helped develop and implement organizational and operational strategies, including cataloguing donations and managing the client store inventory
  • Assisted in training new volunteers (having personally volunteered for several years before the internship)

January 2021 – June 2021

Sales Representative, ION Solar, Austin, TX

  • Persuaded homeowners in Austin, Del Valle, and Elgin to set appointments to evaluate custom solar quotes
  • Developed rapport at the doors to dispel misconceptions about solar energy
  • Tied with supervisor for best appointment setter in April, resulting in 34.6 kW of power sold that month
  • Learned basic Spanish to be able to communicate with Spanish monolinguals in the primarily Hispanic Del Valle
  • Achieved the unprecedented combination of all-time sit and close conversion rates both above 40%

Student Researcher, Initiative for the Study of Politico-Religious Ideation and Influence @ UT Austin

  • With a teammate, analyzed comments on the web edition of The Epoch Times for sentiments, political positions, and conspiracy references
  • Designed and executed statistical tests on metrics from comments and articles, developing spreadsheet skills along the way

  • Studied organ performance, as a result became substitute organist at St. Luke’s on the Lake Episcopal Church
  • Held office hours, graded tests, and made resources for students as an organic chemistry TA in Fall 2020
  • As Musical Director of the Guild of Student Carillonneurs, performed weekly concerts on the Kniker Carillon, maintained the guild’s music library, oversaw auditions, programmed and advertised concerts, and organized and participated in media interviews
