About Michelle Rockholt:
I have several years of experience working with middle and high school students with the first two and the last nine being in the alternative education environment. I am dual credentialed in both Social Science and in English, and have also taught algebra, geometry, science and electives in the alternative education school setting. For several years, I was on the leadership team in the alternative education department, I was the lead teacher at my school site, and I have taught basic English and math in the after-school program for adults. I was also a mentor teacher with the induction program.
I am currently the high school teacher at Synergy ALE campus. I teach social studies, English, math, science, essential skills and electives as well as helping with credit recovery. I strive to teach in a way that is relevant to the students’ lives and is engaging so that they don’t continue to fall behind. This includes using strategies that involve all learning styles and are not strictly relegated to instruct, practice, assess. My experience includes creating lessons of various formats, implementing multiple teaching strategies that are appropriate for a diverse group of students to teach individualized lessons and creating activities for students according to their ability, background and learning style. I use project-based learning, technology-based learning, and teach electives that most students find interesting and useful.
I have experience with various software programs such as Apex, Aeries, Google software, Edusoft, Google documents, Illuminate, Edgenuity, Cyber High, and others. I also have experience integrating technology into lessons through PowerPoint, Google Classroom, Nearpod, Canvas, Smart boards, etc. I am trained and experienced in administering state testing and ELPAC tests and often attend seminars to advance my teaching skills.
Experience
I have been a secondary teacher in social studies and English since 2010. I have taught AP U.S History, civics, economics, world history, U.S. history, English, ELL classes, and I am 5511 certified to teach math as well. I have spent 11 years in an alternative education setting helping students get their credits caught up so they can graduate on time. I have also tutored and taught adult education in basic math and English. I have also been a mentor teacher in an induction program.
Education
I have taught 14 years of social studies classes including world history, U.S. history, civics, economics, and geography.
