Michael Warren

Currently, I am studying for the GRE to enroll in the Master of Library and Information Sciences program at the University of South Florida. As I enter the second stage of my life, I am ready to shift into a different gear. The mental exhaustion that goes along with sales and being an entrepreneur is something I hope to leave behind, even if that requires starting over an entry level position. Any opportunity to begin my career in a library is an applicable learning experience that would be invaluable to me I begin my journey toward my MLIS.

It should not go without mention that I am an avid reader and collector of books and do have applicable work experience, having worked in the Syracuse University Bookstore for many years. I created display design and the staged marketing of books and related materials. I assisted in the count and recount in cooperation with RGIS inventory services, and helped maintain reorder counts for textbooks each semester during the rush periods. I was responsible for processing special accounts, including scholarship and VA benefits accounts with multiple levels of compliance. I assisted students with directional and informational questions regarding location of textbooks and other materials, placed special orders for unique books, catalogued and shelved books, and placed massive book orders with publishers, which required great focus and attention to detail. I also assisted in the training of student employees. I have no doubt that all these competencies and skills would be transferrable in the position of Library Associate.

When reviewing my resume, you might notice the gap in workforce employment. I made the choice to take care of our three children while my wife pursued her professional career. It was the best choice of my life. It was during this time that I became an entrepreneur. This experience enhanced my talents in leadership, teamwork, determination, and prioritization as I managed multiple schedules, planned, and implemented enriching curricula, read a lot of picture books, enforced rules, and provided around-the-clock care.
