About Megan Owens:

Hello! My name is Megan Owens. I am a Fall 2022 graduate of the University of Louisville. My degree is a BSBA with a Marketing emphasis with minors in Film Studies & Production and Entrepreneurship. I'm originally from the Appalachian area of Paintsville, KY. I hope to one day specialize in luxury marketing and creative direction. I have an incredible work ethic and many creative passions that I would love to use at your company.

Experience

Marketing Intern: I recently worked as a marketing intern with Aramark for the University of Louisville's Dining Services. I helped with social media promotion, data collection and analytics, event planning and promotion, and most often, graphic design for social media, physical advertising pieces, and events. I was constantly learning with this job! My social skills sharpened dramatically, and I was constantly learning new things about aesthetics and graphic design.

Resident Assistant: I worked as a resident assistant (RA) for the University of Louisville. This consisted of managing students in a specific section of one of the residence halls. This looked like handling high-stress emotional conflicts like suicide/self-harm prevention, fighting, and roommate conflicts; enforcing the rules of university housing; hosting/planning events; having intentional conversations in order to gauge the health and wellness of the students; promoting community bonding; working front desk shifts to aid anyone in need; and handling high-stress situations such as police calls, criminal behavior in the hall, emergencies (such as fires), and injuries. Through UofL Housing, I've also had active shooter, QPR, Title IX, and other emergency trainings. I loved this job, and I truly value the sense of community I felt in my residence hall. I learned lot from this job, and always embraced new responsibilities.

Resident Assistant: At the KAAC Governor's Cup Camp, I regularly work as a resident assistant during my summers. While there, I monitor the children, handle paperwork, write/grade quizzes, host quick-recall matches (think Jeopardy!), and deal with any emergencies/aggravations that arise. I'm essentially a busy worker-bee for the camp administrators, as well as a supervisor for the children at the camp. The kids are always teaching me something new between managing their individualized care needs and indulging in their special interests/hobbies; it's always incredibly rewarding.

Marketing Intern: At LouWellSpa, I took on the brunt of their marketing work, being their first marketing intern (or, really, the first employee with any sort of marketing background) hired. I was in charge of managing their social media (including creating posts, stories, commenting, sifting through DMs, and creating a posting schedule), working on collaborative promotions with local businesses (creating a list of potential businesses to work with and writing personalized emails for collaboration propositions), creating imagery displayed on technology in the spa, coming up with event ideas, and re-working their website (using Wix and my own graphics). Most of my experience in marketing at LouWellSpa was primarily in my own hands; so, I learned a lot about what to do and what not to do in terms of marketing from scratch.

Student Brand Ambassador: As part of the Twirlista team, my main focus was on brand ambassador work, which consisted primarily of brand outreach on UofL's campus and my own social media platforms, social media content curation and management, and event hosting services on UofL's campus with UofL affiliated partners (ex. sororities). I also regularly attended meetings discussing advertising work, photoshoots, promotional deals, as well as product sourcing and pricing decisions. This was a job that definitely taught me how to work above and beyond the posted expectations of a job, negotiations, and on-the-fly planning/thinking.

Marketing Intern: At Schott, I did a brief summer internship under their head of eastern North American marketing, which was an incredibly rewarding experience. As a marketing intern, I learned about the structure of the company in both an international and local setting, learned about sales pitches and product adjustments, created ads, wrote promotional material for internal affairs, worked with local companies for advertising and promotional material, organized the materials database, conducted account-based marketing research with accompanying reports, editing presentations, and put together PR boxes for potential customers. I loved working with this company; I learned so much about the difference between how to conduct B2B marketing versus B2C (which was all of my prior experience), and the complexities of internationally structured companies, like Schott.

Marketing Intern: At Gary Smith's State Farm office, I was tasked with a wide variety of marketing-related activities, including outbound calling, writing scripts for outbound calls, pitching policy appointments on behalf of the agents, event hosting and promotion, promotional collaborations with other local businesses, etc. I also performed tasks such as setting appointments, organizing customer information and agent sales in Excel reports, editing/reviewing customer information using Salesforce software, and engaging in one-on-one relations with incoming customers. This job taught me a lot about working with a wide variety of people, and catering to the differences of each individual consumer was key to my success in this office.

Education

I recently completed a BSBA with a Marketing emphasis and minors in Film Studies & Production and Entrepreneurship. At UofL, I am a member of the Honors College, was the Social Media Coordinator for the Honors Student Council, a former member of the College of Business Scholarship Book Club, a Trustees' Scholarship Awardee, and a Summer and Fall 2022 Resident Assistant. I also worked for UofL Dining's partner company, Aramark, via a Marketing internship. At the University of Louisville, I completed several projects such as developing a new program for the college of business, completing my IBM certification in design thinking, a capstone rework of Halo Top's campaign strategy, and so much more. Feel free to ask me any questions about my time at UofL!
