Md Saiful Hasan

I worked with the USAID health program for 15 years, focusing on monitoring, evaluation, learning, and research. In this role, I primarily supported the Bangladesh Ministry of Health, especially the MIS department, in strengthening health data systems. My responsibilities included research data analysis using SPSS, as well as extensive use of Microsoft Excel for data management, analysis, and visualization. One of my notable projects was collecting and managing baseline information from over 100,000 smallholders, which included detailed data on production inputs, outputs, sales, and nutrition. I designed dashboards in Excel to support data-driven decision-making. In addition, I have prior experience with Microsoft Access and have used Power BI and Tableau for data visualization.

Through my work, I have gained hands-on experience in handling large health-related datasets, building dashboards, and applying analytical tools to support policy decisions. I am familiar with digital health systems such as DHIS2, and I continue to expand my knowledge by using modern analytical tools such as R and Python. Over the past two years, I have used R extensively for biostatistical analysis and started working with Python in the last year, which has strengthened my foundation in health data science.

While working with health data, I witnessed how rapidly technologies and tools in health informatics have been evolving. Attending the DHIS2 conference in Washington, DC in 2022 made me realize how fast the world is moving in digital health and how essential it is to stay updated. I understood that to remain relevant and to contribute effectively to global health, I needed to pursue an advanced degree in this field. This realization motivated me to enroll in a self-funded MS program in Public Health Data Science, with a concentration in Biostatistics, to strengthen both my technical and theoretical expertise.

I bring more than a decade of experience working with health programs at scale, including direct collaboration with a national health ministry. My strengths lie in data analysis, health information systems, dashboard development, and the ability to translate data into actionable insights for policy and program decisions. Additionally, I bring practical experience with multiple software tools (SPSS, Excel, R, Python, Power BI, Tableau, Access) and a strong motivation to bridge my applied field experience with advanced data science methods.
