Hi, I’m Mary. I’m a Java Software Engineer with experience working on large-scale enterprise applications, mainly in the healthcare domain.

Right now, I’m working at Optum (UnitedHealth Group) as a Java Developer. My day-to-day work is mostly around building and maintaining backend services using Java and Spring Boot, developing APIs, and making sure the systems are scalable, reliable, and performant. The applications I work on handle a high volume of healthcare claims, so performance, security, and stability are very important.

I also work closely with UI and product teams, and I’ve built Angular and React components for dashboards and internal tools. I really enjoy collaborating across teams and understanding the business side, not just writing code.

One thing I focus on a lot is performance optimization—improving API response times, optimizing database queries, and making sure the system can handle large workloads without issues. I’ve also worked with event-driven systems using tools like Kafka and cloud services on AWS and Azure.

Over time, I’ve also been involved in integrating machine learning features into backend systems, especially for things like anomaly detection in claims. My role there is more on the engineering side—making sure models can run smoothly in production and scale well.

Earlier in my career, I worked at Cognizant, where I gained strong full-stack experience and learned good engineering practices like clean code, design patterns, and writing maintainable systems.

Overall, I’m someone who enjoys building real-world systems, taking ownership of features end-to-end, and continuously improving how things work. I’m especially interested in roles where I can grow as a backend engineer and work on impactful, scalable products.

I hold a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of the Cumberlands, where I built a strong foundation in software engineering, data structures, algorithms, databases, and distributed systems. I also earned a Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science and Engineering from Sathyabama University, which provided me with solid fundamentals in programming, system design, and problem-solving, preparing me for real-world software development roles.
