• In conjunction with district leaser, coordinate the selection and piloting of new curricula for the ESL Department at the high school.
• Responsible for the hiring of new staff members.
• Supervise and evaluate 20 staff members.
• Plan and manage the administration of the ACCESS test.
• Manage the ESL Department annual budget.
• Collaborate and supervise the co-teaching ELA/ESL model for ESL students.
• Work closely with the Translation and Interpretation Service to ensure proper communication with families.
• Analyze and report data from department’s benchmark and ACCESS scores.
• Facilitate weekly Professional Learning Community meetings.
• Plan and coordinate meetings to promote the ELPAC (English learners Parent Advisory).
• Work with middle school teachers and administrators in the proper placement of EL 9th grade students.
• Plan sections for at-risk seniors to complete the MCAS grade-level and competency portfolios.
• Compile, maintain, and submit necessary reports to the District ESL Coordinator such as, teachers and students’ minutes of instruction, students’ success plans, exiting monitoring forms, FEL monitoring forms, newcomer/SLIFE students’ transition forms.
• Ensure proper placement for EL and Newcomer/SLIFE students within the school.
• Create SLIFE/Newcomer teacher and students schedules.
• Support teachers in the development, revision, and alignment of the high school ESL curriculum.
• Support SLIFE teachers in the development of the ELD curriculum
• Collect and analyze data to identify and support ESL SLIFE/Newcomer students not meeting English proficiency benchmarks.
• Coordinate meetings with guidance counselor, sped staff members, teachers and administrators to ensure the implementation of appropriate interventions for EL/Slife/Newcomer students in need.
• Support the creation of new and more challenging courses for long-term EL students
• Create new elective classes for SLIFE/Newcomer groups throughout the school year
• Supervise the Newcomers/Slife program
• Plan and coordinate the after school, summer and Saturday programs for EL/SLIFE/Newcomer students and their families.
• Work with community partners to support the EL/ SLIFE/Newcomer community in need.
