Mark Grasso

I am a recovering addict with experience working as a Peer Support Specialist. As I have a strong desire to work in the field of addiction recovery I am currently continuing my education to obtain my credentials as an Addiction Counselor. 

-   Facilitated group therapy on a variety of topics: anger, stress management, addiction, goal setting, and daily living skills.

-   Supervised behavior of residents in a Therapeutic Community, reported to treatment team for guidance in appropriate approach to behavior problems and issues within the community.

-   Maintained up to date client progress notes to guide treatment intervention. Recorded information regarding progression or regression in client’s behavior, stage of change, and over-all status of treatment.

-   Counseled individuals one-on-one where conflict resolution, decision making, mindfulness and problem solving were the focus.

-   Developed and facilitated a weekly self-help group based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for individuals seeking relief from the disease of addiction, with focus on how our thoughts and beliefs affect our emotions and how our emotions impact our decisions.

-   Developed and taught a 12 hour employment readiness class designed to prepare attendants with the skills necessary to navigate a fruitful job search, prepare a professional resume, and conduct a successful interview.

Currently enrolled in the DARC program at Naugatuck Valley Community College in pursuit of a degree and certification in Addiction Counseling
