Maddie Dummitt
Healthcare
About Maddie Dummitt:
I am a pre-medical student at Clemson University pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences with a Public Health certificate. My academic interests center on understanding the biological and social factors that influence health and applying that knowledge to improve patient care.
Through my clinical experiences, I have developed a strong commitment to compassionate, patient-centered medicine. I have volunteered in oncology and NICU units at Piedmont Hospital and served as a Patient Experience Advocate at Atrium Health Navicent, where I helped bridge communication between patients and healthcare providers. I have also shadowed physicians in obstetrics and gynecology, internal medicine, and neurology, which has given me insight into diverse areas of clinical practice and reinforced my passion for medicine.
In addition to clinical exposure, I am actively involved in leadership and mentorship. As a Health Professions Ambassador and a Peer Mentor for the American Medical Women’s Association, I support students pursuing healthcare careers and help them navigate the pre-medical path. I also serve as a Peer-Assisted Learning tutor, where I enjoy simplifying complex scientific concepts and helping others succeed academically.
I am driven by curiosity, service, and a desire to make meaningful connections with patients. My goal is to become a physician who not only treats disease but also advocates for patient understanding, trust, and long-term well-being.
Experience
I have gained diverse clinical and leadership experience through hospital volunteering, physician shadowing, and mentorship roles. I volunteered in oncology med-surg and NICU units at Piedmont Hospital and served as a Patient Experience Advocate at Atrium Health Navicent, where I supported patient care and improved communication between patients and healthcare providers. I have also shadowed physicians in obstetrics and gynecology, internal medicine, and neurology, gaining exposure to a wide range of medical specialties and clinical decision-making. In addition, I have completed clinical skills workshops in suturing, IV placement, and airway management, and I currently serve as a Health Professions Ambassador, Peer Mentor, and Peer-Assisted Learning tutor at Clemson University.
Education
I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences at Clemson University, with an expected graduation in May 2026. I am also completing a Public Health Certificate to strengthen my understanding of population health and healthcare systems. Prior to Clemson, I participated in dual enrollment at Middle Georgia State University and completed summer coursework through Harvard University Extension School, further expanding my academic foundation in the sciences.
