Lucia Song

Lucia Song is a SoCal-based UX/Product Designer with ten+ years of multi-disciplinary background in industrial and automotive design. She is a user-focused innovative designer, who especially enjoys cutting-edge development in advanced teams and creating future-forward ideas to turn them into reality to improve the user’s life. Her work spans the industry sectors from automotive to consumer electronics and consumer goods for small and large-scale international clients.

Her studies in Industrial/Transportation Design at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit led her to a ten-year stint at Fiat Chrysler Automobile and Volvo Cars, where she learned firsthand the functional and business value of good Industrial design and UX/UI. During her time at Oakley and LDA LLC, she worked with the marketing and product design teams and participated in usability tests, which inspired her to attend the UX/UI program at the University of California, Berkeley. Their intensive six-month program gave her even more hands-on exposure to working with the Double Diamond process and direct experience working on a design team.

Lucia and her work have been featured in international publications such as Auto & Design and Car Design News. She received the Ward’s best Interior design award for the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. She holds patents for the 2012 Chrysler Minivan, 2017 Chrysler Pacifica, and many Oakley products.

Co-Founder, Product Designer 2014 - current Gearbox Design Studio | Santa Ana, CA We offer hardware and software design services for businesses to help them develop their ideas and products, including user research, persona creation, ideation sketches, digital renderings, 3D prototypes, UX/UI for web and app design, and Figma prototypes. Worked with Omega 3 kitchen appliances and Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa among others.

Design · Sketching Senior Product Designer 2016 - 2018 Oakley | Foothill Ranch, CA Created new design language for Oakley's 2018 and 2019 collections by designing a variety of advanced and production sports performance and lifestyle products. Set a strategy for the 2019 and 2020 Oakley female collection by in-depth consumer research in collaboration with the product team, sports marketing team, and athletes.

Senior Interior Designer 2016 Volvo Cars | Camarillo, CA  Created an autonomous EV interior concept and collaborated with UX design team to set UX/UI strategy.

CCS Student Mentor / Gearbox Design co-founder 2014 - 2015 College for Creative Studies | Detroit, MI Mentored CCS transportation design students. Various design projects. 

Lead Designer 2004 - 2013 Fiat Chrysler Automobiles | Auburn Hills, MI Created a new Chrysler brand image through exterior and interior design. For the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica, conducted market research and interviews in Anaheim, CA as part of focus group. Presented to upper management and received approval to lead a team of 4 designers from concept to production. For the 2014 Chrysler 200, acted as lead exterior designer of pre-production. Contributed to many advanced proposals, and definitions of a new Chrysler form language.
