About Landon Lemmens:
I am very interested in conserving native plant communities, protecting rare and endangered species, and working in natural areas across the Appalachian region. I am from Northeast Ohio and have come to really appreciate the native flora and fauna of the area. Over the years, I have developed a comprehensive knowledge of the regional flora, natural heritage, ecological functions, and state and federal workings within the field of Natural Resources.
Experience
I have worked for Ohio Natural Areas and Preserves Association, and Ohio Department of Natural Resources for a number of years. With these organizations, I was in charge of carrying out invasive species management through chemical and mechanical means. I was in charge of recruiting and organizing volunteers and educational events. Much of my work was compiling treatment plots over GIS and Google Earth. I had to keep track of herbicide reports that would be archived by the state of Ohio. My job included general trail maintenance, shop maintenance, state vehicle and tool maintenance. With Ohio Natural Areas and Preserves Association, I helped with rare plant monitoring, ecosystem maintenance and restoration as well as carrying out active predator introductions for plants such as Purple Loosestrife. I was also involved in collaborating with landowners and organization partners as well as coordinating chainsaw and herbicide trainings.
Education
I have a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture and an Associate in Wildlife management from West Virginia University. I am currently at Western Colorado University receiving my master's in environmental management. I will have my first year out of two done this May (2023).
