Loaded question! Within almost three decades of extensive and decadent experience, I have had the honor and privilege to work as an educator/consultant/facilitator both internationally and domestically with individuals ranging from top Swiss scientists to special needs kindergarteners, from languages and cultures on almost every continent, and from all levels of ability and learning styles. I have had to at times innovate, create and develop my own curriculum to tailor it to the group I was working with, on the fly! Sometimes having more than ten languages and cultures in one classroom. Sometimes consulting-working with top international professionals to help them be able to communicate effectively (verbally, electronically, and in-person presentations) their products in other lands, in a foreign language! I’ve had classes of fifty or more students with three generations present, all eager to learn something! I’ve had to proctor foreign language exams, help international university students pass the TOEFL exam to get into a US university system, and develop and implement credited courses for those same university students to be able to survive within a university class in English…that is listening, speaking, writing, reading, and grammar (of course). Then there are the T.A. positions I’ve had shadowing elementary level special needs students, or substituting for older kids within Juvenile Court and Community Schools, when my daughter was young. Yes, my experience is eclectic for sure! And this is why I am good at it. I have always seemed to have a natural teaching ability, or personality…I intuitively understood Learning Styles and Brain-Based Learning long before research proved it was a thing. I genuinely enjoy people and helping them feel good by empowerIng themselves, it’s got to be one of life’s most incredible feelings to know that you just helped someone reach a new level of belief in themself and they will never be the same again! So good!
