Kevin Rouzaud

I'm Kevin, and I'm a third year CS major at the University of New Mexico. I'm interested in cybersecurity and software engineering as well as many sub fields related to computer science which I find really interesting, graphics programming for example. I've had 2 internships in the past, my first involved teaming up with a PhD student who mentored me on their research in AI. My second was about cybersecurity development and tooling at Whitesands Missile Range. I'm proficient in Linux, and know basic linux based cybersecurity tools like burpsuite and nmap. I'm also proficient in Java and Python, along with a solid foundation in pure C programming. Along my journey I've picked up several other skills outside of what was taught at UNM such as Docker and Git, as well as picking up some essential soft skills through experience such as leadership and planning projects. 

My professional experience in computer science began with a summer internship at the University of Texas at Austin, where I worked alongside a Ph.D. student conducting research in artificial intelligence. My primary responsibility was to build and test neural networks using PyTorch, implementing my mentor’s specialized technique designed to reduce the amount of data required for model training. This experience provided me with a strong foundation in AI principles and valuable exposure to academic research.

I later completed a second internship at White Sands Missile Range, where I developed and tested cybersecurity tools to support penetration testing efforts for full-time analysts. This opportunity allowed me to work with a wide range of cybersecurity and software development tools while strengthening my proficiency with the Linux operating system.

I am currently in my third year pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science at the University of New Mexico, with plans to continue on to a Master’s degree afterward. Through my coursework, I have gained a strong foundation in data structures and algorithms, numerical computing and analysis, and the design and implementation principles of software engineering.
